Normally I use this column to brag about the achievements of our students but this week I’m going to share the achievements of some of our fantastic staff. Last week I attended the Australian College of Educators’ Recognition Awards in Wollongong to see two long standing members of the Nowra High School community acknowledged. Kate Forbes, Deputy Principal, is a dedicated and outstanding educator who is held in high esteem by her colleagues, our students and their parents/carers. She works tirelessly to seek out the best ways of supporting our students in their education and is committed to ensuring the best possible educational outcomes for every student in her care. This award was well-deserved recognition for Kate. Leanne Bricklebank has been a tireless advocate for public education and supporter of schools in the Nowra community for many years. She was actively involved in the Illaroo Road Public School P&C during the education of her sons and then became involved with the Nowra High School P&C as they came to high school. Her youngest son, Mitchell, will complete his HSC at Nowra HS this year, bringing to an end her long involvement with the school. Leanne is currently the President of the Nowra High School P&C and has held this position for several years. She has led the P&C with a high level of integrity and dedication and has overseen a number of fundraising ventures that have added significant value to the school. It was great to see Kate and Leanne being publicly acknowledged at such a prestigious event for the wonderful contributions they make to Nowra High School. Congratulations to Kate and Leanne! This week Mrs Jodie Wellington, A/Head Teacher, Teaching and Learning, graduated from the Aboriginal Teacher Leader Program. She has completed the program and a research project which she presented at the graduation. Jodie is a gifted teacher and a natural leader, and I am incredibly proud and lucky to have her on the staff at Nowra High School. Congratulations Jodie! Today I visited our Year 9 students at Nowra Show Ground who were completing Peer Support Leader training. The students were engaged in a range of activities to build their leadership and communication skills and they will become leaders in the Peer Support program for Year 7 in 2014. This program introduces Year 7 students to high school life and assists them in developing a new circle of friends. I would like to thank the students for their active participation and willingness to take on this leadership role. I would also like to thank our Peer Support Coordinator, Ms McAlister, and her team of teachers for the incredible amount of work they put in to make the program a success. Well done!

any parents or caregivers are able to assist please contact the Canteen on 44213435. As with most work places we can structure your volunteering hours to best suit you. As a volunteer in the Canteen, you would be making a very valuable contribution to the Nowra High School community.
The Nowra High P&C has, in 2013, donated just under $43000 to various school projects. These funds come from the operation of the Canteen, therefore if you are able to volunteer in the Canteen then we pay less in wages which means increased profit made and ultimately more money we can put back into our wonderful school.
