It is finally time to answer the question on everyone’s mind, “what is the incentive for the new Wellness CDHP?”The Upgrade program information applies to employees covered by a medical plan and employed by the State of Indiana by May 1, 2014, and does not apply to conservation officers, excise officers, Indiana State Police plan participants, part-time, temporary employees or contractors.
Ashealthcarecostscontinuetoincreaseeachyear,youcanexpectplanratestorisein2015.ByqualifyingforandelectingthenewWellnessCDHPatOpenEnrollment,youcanminimizethecostimpactoftheincreases.
ForthosewhoselectthenewWellnessCDHP,thetotalbenefitisatleast$1,000forfamilycoverageand$425forsinglecoveragewhencomparedtotheprojectedratesofother2015plans.TheseestimatesarebasedonplanholdersenrolledinCDHP1withanHSAandarebrokendownasfollows:
• AnindividualthatenrollsinthenewsinglewellnessCDHPratherthanthe2015CDHP1willseeadifferenceofapproximately$175inpremiumand$250instate’sHSAcontribution.
• AnindividualthatenrollsinthenewfamilywellnessCDHPratherthanthe2015CDHP1willseeadifferenceofapproximately$500inpremiumand$500inthestate’sHSAcontribution.
Thoseplanholderscomparingthe2015CDHP2orthePPOwiththenewwellnessCDHPwillseeagreatertotalbenefit,asthosepremiumsarealreadyhigherandHSAcontributionsarelowerthanCDHP1.
Toreiterate,thesearethesavingsbasedonprojected2015rates.Thestateiscurrentlyevaluatingproposalsfromhealthcareadministratorsandweareunabletofinalizeallthenewratesuntillaterthisfall,aswedoeachyearleadinguptoOpenEnrollment.
Wearepleasedtoofferouremployeesthisnewwellnessplanoptionandencourageeveryonetotakestepstodaytoupgradetheirhealth.

Thefairalwayshassomethingtocelebrate,andthisyear’scelebrationhasreachedhistoricproportions.Afteran18month,$53millionrenovation,theFairgroundsColiseumisbackinuseandbetterthanever!With12oftheoriginalticketwindows,96restoredoriginalseatsandabeautifulnewterrazzolobbyfloorthatmatchestheoriginal,theColiseumstillhasmuchofits75yearhistorypreserved.However,itsspacioustwo-tieredseatingbowl,overheadLEDscoreboardandfantasticacousticswillletyouknowyou’reinabrandnewatmosphereunlikeanyother.It’salsowhythisisthe“YearoftheColiseum.”
TheColiseumConcertSeriesboastssevengreatacts,includingLynyrdSkynyrd(July31),HunterHayes(Aug.9)andJimGaffigan(Aug.17)thatwillhelplaunchthisnewchapterintheColiseum’shistory.Andinbetweenalltheperformanceswillbedrafthorseshows,livestockcompetitions,theCelebrationofChampionsandanumberofotheractivitiesthatwillkeepfairgoersthoroughlyentertained.
Hoosiernativeand“TheVoice”Season6championJoshKaufmanwillbesingingontheFreeStageAugust7,oneofanumberofnationalactsscheduledforthisscenicoutdoorvenue.FanscanalsoenjoyCharlesEsten&ClareBowenfromTV’s“Nashville”(Aug.2),theBarenakedLadies(Aug.11)andtheHappyTogetherTourfeaturingFlo&Eddie(Aug.12).Alltheseshowsandmorewillbeunderthestarsandfree!

Working to improve employee’s health while at workTheIndianaStateDepartmentofHealth(ISDH)isdedicatedtotheirvisionofmakingIndianahealthierandsaferforallHoosiers.Severalyearsago,ISDHrealizedtheireffortsshouldstartathomewiththeiremployeesthoughandcreatedtheHealthandWellnessCommittee.
Overtheyears,theHealthandWellnessCommitteehasaccomplishedmanyoftheirgoalsfromincludinghealthieroptionsinthevendingmachinestoprovidingHealthyLunchn’Learnsessions.Thecommittee’seffortstoprovidephysicalactivityopportunities,suchasonsiteclasses,afitnesscenterandspecialevents,havehelpedmanyemployeesmaketheirfitnessgoalspossible.
MaryAnnHurrlewasoneofthemanyISDHemployeesexcitedtobeinanonsiteYogaclassthatmetduringthefallandwintermonthsatnoon.Itwasagreatwaytogetalittlephysicalactivityandrelaxationinduringalunchhour.Sometimesweallneedabreakinourdayanditiseasiertogetmotivatedtomovemorewithagroupofco-workersandagreatinstructor.
Classesarenotforeveryone,though,andISDHhasasmallonsiteFitnessCenterforthoseemployeesdedicatedtotheirroutine.KeyleeWrightfoundthattheconvenientlocationmadeitpossibleforhertogethercardiovascularactivityinbyusingtheelliptical,maintainingherstrengthtrainingwiththeweightequipment,andcross-trainingbydoingworkoutDVDsafterhavingababy.Keyleehadsomanymoredemandsonherschedulewithanewbabyandreturningtowork–thatthefitness
centerinthebuildingsavedhertimeandanextracommutetothegymallowinghertoremainactive.
Specialevents,suchasBiketoWorkDay,havechallengedISDHemployeestolookatfitnessinanewway.Eachyear,severalemployeestakepartintheevent–butforLindseyBouzaitwasthecatalystsheneededtostartbikingtoworkonaregularbasis.Formany,itisalittledauntingtothinkofcommutingonbiketoworkthefirsttime.Theeventmadeitpossibleforpeopletomeetandrideinwithotherstoseehowitwouldgo.NowLindseyhassomeonesheridesinwithacoupleoftimesaweek.
Recently,ISDHlearnedthattheirhardworkhadnotgoneunnoticed.TheAmericanHeartAssociationissoonpresentingISDHwiththeGoldLevel

Peoplewhogotothedentistatleastonceayeararemorelikelytofeelbetterabouttheirlifeoverall,accordingtoarecentDeltaDentalOralHealthandWell-BeingSurvey.
Infact,Americanswhovisitthedentistatleastannuallyare22percentmorelikelytoreporttheiroverallwell-being—theirphysicalandemotionalhealth—asgoodorbettercomparedwiththosewhoseldomvisitthedentist.
Notsurprisingly,peoplewhogotothedentistmoreoftenalsotendtoreportbetteroralhealth.Americanswhovisitthedentistatleastonceayearare37percentmorelikelytoreporttheiroralhealthasgoodorbetterversusthosewhoinfrequentlyfindthemselvesinadentist’schair.
DeltaDental’ssurveyof1,003Americanadultsfoundthatdentalcoverageisalsoasignificantfactorindentalvisitsandoverallwell-being.Nearlyeightof10Americans(78percent)withdentalcoveragevisitthedentistatleastonceayearversusonlyabouthalf(52percent)whodon’thavecoverage.

There’snomagicremedyorquicksolutionforimprovedhealth.However,in2013datacollectedbytheAmericanHeartAssociationshowsfriendsandfamilymembersmaybemoresuccessfulinimprovingtheirhealthbyworkingasateam.Thestudy’sresultsindicatethatstrongsocialnetworks,suchasthoseamongfriendsandrelatives,helpedpeopleadopthealthyroutinesthatimprovedtheiroverallhealth.Thedatashowedthatparticipantscollectivelywithfriendsandfamilycompletedmorehealthgoalsandweremoresuccessfulatachievingpermanentresults.Takingthefirststeptowardsbeinghealthycanbethemostchallenging.Itcantrickytoknowwheretostartorwhocouldhelp.TheStatePersonnelDepartment(SPD)isintheprocessofbuildinganetworkofindividualswhocanbethegoodinfluenceyoumayneedtobecomehealthier.TheseindividualsarecalledWellnessChampions.AWellnessChampionservesasanambassadorofwellnessfortheiragencyand/orworklocationby:• Leadingthewellnessinitiative

Despitetherelativelystrongoralhealthfindings,severaloralhealthchallengesremain:• MorethanoneoffiveAmericans
(21percent)saytheyhavebeenadvisedbyadentistthattheyhavegumdisease.
• AboutoneofsixAmericans(16percent)saytheyhavemissedworkduetooralhealthissuesbeyondregulartreatmentsandcleanings.

postgraduatedegreesinthefieldsofpublicmanagementandhealthadministrationfromtheSchoolofPublicandEnvironmentalAffairsatIndianaUniversityPurdueUniversityIndianapolis.FormerFSSASecretaryMichaelGarganowillrejoinFSSAasDeputySecretaryforOperationsandHIP2.0.Inthisposition,GarganowillleadpreparationsfortheimplementationofHIP2.0,ifapprovedbyfederalofficials,atFSSA.Aspartofthiseffort,hewillalignagencyprioritiestoensurethatHIP2.0isreadytoacceptenrolleesinatimelyandsuccessfulmanner.
“MichaelGarganoisaprovenleaderwhoseknowledgeandfirsthandexperiencewithinIndiana’sFamily&SocialServicesAdministrationwillserveournewSecretary,theState,andsomeofourmostvulnerablecitizenswithprofessionalismandintegrity,”saidGovernorPence.GarganocurrentlyservesasManagingDirectorofCSpring,whereheisresponsibleforthecompany’sbusinessdevelopmentandservicedeliveryinitiatives.Withmorethan30yearsintheprivateandpublicsectors,GarganopreviouslyservedasSecretaryofFSSAfromNovember2010to2013.There,heledeffortstoimprovetheefficiencyandcareprovidedtoHoosierclientsoftheagency.HeisagraduateofKentStateUniversity,whereheearnedhisundergraduatedegreeinaccountingandhisMBA.
CurrentFSSASecretaryDebraMinott’sdepartureiseffectiveJuly5,2014.DeputySecretaryGarganowillserveasSecretaryofFSSAinaninterimcapacity,fromJuly6untilJuly21,whenDr.WernertwillassumetheroleofSecretary.
