RESEARCH

Topic - is age the biggest contributing factor to car accidents?

Why? – I am curious as to why Johnston County has such a high percentage of kids dying due to car accidents.

CAUSES- Hand-held cell phones- Alcohol- Speeding - Amount of people- Small vehicles

YOUNG AGE- Common sense & judgment - Mental and physical abilities and limitations - 16 year olds - Age is not a good indicator

HOW TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE- Being a good role model - Choosing safe cars - Accident Awareness Classes- Discussing the importance of abstaining from

alcohol & drugs- Parents

JOHNSTON COUNTY- Highest teenage car accidents- Shannon Adkins- She was the 27th teen to die in a crash in

Johnston County since 2006- Why Johnston county?

OBSTACLES- Personal voice - Reliable Websites- Too many statistics- Repeated information

SUCCESSES - Learned a lot that I didn’t know when dealing

with car accidents.- Ways to prevent Car accidents- The paper ended up flowing together better

than I thought it would (statistics)

LINK After focusing on the major causes and distractions that cause car accidents in my paper, I decided to make a documentary on a recent Clayton High School graduate. I wanted to open the eyes of teenagers at Clayton and show them how quick a car accident can happen.

PRODUCT

WHAT I LEARNED• I learned that making a difference is not hard if

you put your mind to it.• This experience has shown me how easily one

video can affect hundreds of people.• After talking with Adonis’ mom I came to realize

life is too short.• I learned how to manage my time better.

REFLECTIONThis was not a project, but an experience. I’m glad I chose the topic I did because it changed how I view things now. After completing the video I felt a sense of accomplishment not only with myself but how I touched other people’s lives.

FUTUREThis project has made me realize how much I love video editing and how I might consider taking classes in that field. I want to grow from this experience and keep helping the community. There will be no empty seats for the class of 2013 due to car accidents.

Thank you.
