History

• 1993- Khomeini gave a speech in which he urged the world’s Muslims to rise up against the superpowers. After this, he was arrested.

• Khomeini got his power to rule on Feb. 11, 1997. This is known as the magnificent victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Women: A proper Islamic dress when they leave home. Most wear chadors. At home, they dress how they want. Rich Iranian women follow the latest fashions from Paris and Milan.

Interesting Info

• The national anthem was adopted in 1990• To show respect and maintain proper distance

between genders, men & women don’t always make eye contact during a conversation

• Along the Green and red bands on the flag, there is Arabic that says Allaho Akbar which means God is great.

• Shi’i Islam has been Iran’s state religion since the 1500s
