healthy future
The good news is Australia’s population is ageing and we are living longer than any other generation in history.
Importantly, we are living longer due to advances in medical and scientific research.
In the future older people will make up a larger percentage
of our population. By 2050 people aged 65 and over will
comprise over 25% of the population and will include
today’s 20 and 30 year olds.
The question is, how can we ensure that in living longer
we, our children and grandchildren, can continue to
experience a healthy, productive and connected life?
By researching ageing now and creating evidence to
guide health services, policies and social investment, the
National Ageing Research Institute is helping to build a
better future for all.
Some of the most significant and innovative changes
in aged care practice in Australia are as a result of our
research.
These include the establishment of memory clinics, and
the development of guidelines which are used every
day in hospitals, health care and community aged care
settings, to allow older people to remain at home for as
long as possible.
The Australian Ageing Research Foundation (The Foundation) is the fundraising arm of the National Ageing Research Institute, and aims to raise funds for research which will contribute to the health and wellbeing of older people.
About the National Ageing Research Institute
NARI is the largest, independent medical research institute
devoted to research in ageing in Australia. It was established
in 1976 by the University of Melbourne and Mount Royal
Hospital to conduct research into the ageing body and mind
and train clinicians in the field of gerontology and geriatrics.
It has spearheaded many of the major ageing initiatives in
the last 40 years.
Any person or organisation who contributes $1,000 or
more will become a Foundation benefactor.
You can donate either by filling out the attached
form, or visit our website www.nari.net.au
Leaving a bequest is a special way of leaving a gift for
generations to come. It also allows us to plan for the
long-term future with a greater degree of certainty.
Sponsorship options are available including:
1. Sponsoring a research program or researcher.
2. Sponsoring an event or seminar.
Invitations and information will be forwarded by
email and highlighted on the NARI and AARF website
www.nari.net.au
Supporters can organise endowments through the
Foundation. Endowments enable us to pursue research
priorities which are not currently funded, such as elder
abuse, quality of life, and put our research fundings
into practice.
> Endow a named research Chair (professorship)
> Endow a Senior Fellowship
> Endow an Early Career Fellowship
