Introduction
Introduction
The CTA Companion App allows you to
Conduct and log Training Sessions (Both Flight & Ground) on your iPad or iPhone
Schedule future training sessions on your iPad or iPhone
Use Electronic Signatures
Sync training sessions with the CTA
Go PAPERLESS! (Part 141 operators will require FSDO approval)
The CTA Companion App is available for download on your iPhone or iPad in the Apple Store. Search for "CTA Companion" and download the app.

Electronic Signatures
The CTA Companion App allows you to view and log training sessions on an iPad or iPhone with or without an Internet connection and sync training sessions to the CTA.
Part 141 operators must get approval from their FSDO before using the Electronic Signature
feature.
You do not need to enable the Electronic Signature feature to use the app.
You can still log training sessions, sync those sessions to the CTA and print those training
sessions out for manual signatures.
To enable Electronic Signatures
(This setting in the CTA must be made by someone with the CTA User role of Admin/Chief)
Go to Operations
CPC (Flight Schools Settings
Enter a checkmark to Use Electronic Signature
Enter a checkmark to Require Customer Signature

Audit for Completion
If the Electronic Signature feature is enabled and customer signatures are required, the Audit for Completion Report will feature a new alert to inform you if all records have been signed by the customer electronically.

You will also see a warning on the Customer List indicating the customer has one or more unsigned Training Sessions.

If the customer's signature is required, there are 3 ways the customer can sign their training session electronically:
In person, through the CTA Companion APP on your iOS device using their "fingnature"
In person when you are logged into the CTA using their course password
At home, by accessing their CPC training sessions remotely through their course and using
their course password to sign electronically

Login to the app using the same username and password you use to access the CTA.

Tap the Gear icon on the upper right-hand corner of the menu to access the app settings. This is where you can change the settings to
Use cellular data service continually to sync data
o Automatically using your cellular data service once a session has been finalized or,
signed electronically, move the slider to the right.
Otherwise, the app will wait for a Internet connection to sync changes

To start a training session immediately
Select the NOW icon

Select your customer from the drop down list
o Your customers will appear first
o Followed by the school's customers
The screen will populate with the customer's anticipated Course, Phase and Flight Scenario. You can make adjustments using the drop down arrows.
Once the correct training information appears
Select Start Training To cancel out, select Cancel

To schedule a training session for a date or time in the future
Select the Calendar icon
o The icon looks like a waffle
Select your customer's name from the customer's list

The customer's anticipated Course, Phase and Flight Scenario will auto populate the fields.
Select the date and time of the training session
Select Schedule It to schedule the session
o If you select Now, the date and time will automatically set to the current date and time
and you will be able to start logging the training session right away.

Once a session is scheduled
It will appear in your Session Tray outlined in green
The mini page next to the name and date will be blank as no training has taken place

View Training Record
View Training Record
You can opt to view your customer's training record by selecting View Training Record in either Train Now or Schedule Training screens.

View Training Record
You can view your customer's training records, including instructor notes. If there are instructor notes, you will see a yellow note pinned in the Notes column.
To view the notes
Tap the Note icon
View the instructor's notes recorded during that training session

Audit for Completion
Once on the View Training Record screen, you can select the Audit for Completion Tab and view the Audit for Completion Report.

This line will only appear if the customer's signature is set as required in the CTA.

Whether you choose to use the NOW or Schedule Training option, actually logging a training session is the same process.
If you want to log a scheduled training session, tap on the customer's training session in the Session Tray.
On the training screen below, you have four tabs you can select from
Flight - this is the tab you select for logging flight training
Ground - this is the tab you select for logging ground training
Scenario - this tab contains the flight scenario
Signatures - this tab is for your eSignatures
You can also choose to View Training Record

If your flight school has the Learner Centered Grading feature turned on
You can toggle through your evaluation grading options - otherwise you only have the Instr Eval available.

By tapping on Instr Eval This toggles between Cust Eval and Both Eval and back to Instru EvalIf Learner Center Grading is turned off in the CTA
o You will only view the Instr Eval button

If you want to see the completion standards for each task
Select the box next to Show Completion Standards to reveal the standards for the
Phase.

Grading Tasks
To grade tasks you have two options
Individually select the grade you want
Toggle through grading all tasks completed to the
o Highest completion level,
o The lowest completion level or
o Clearing grades by tapping ALL

To reveal all the tasks for the Phase
Scroll down to the end of the task list and select Show Additional Tasks for this Phaseo The box will turn green when it is active

When you select the aircraft registration number from the drop down list, the corresponding model
number will autimatically appear in the Model field.
When you enter the To and From airports, the app will recall the last 10 airports flown
Just tap on the airport you want to select it

Logging Training Sessions
After you enter the Total Flight Time, you can select a down arrow to the right of any field with the symbol and the number entered in the Total Flight Time field will copy over to the next field.
When you tap on the + symbol next to a field, the value will increase by one digit with each tap.
All your entries are automatically saved as you enter them.
Ground Training Only
To record a Ground Training Session only – Pre – Post-Flight or Other
• Do not make entries in the Flight tab
• Select the Ground Tab and make your entries

Let’s quickly review logging time for a Ground Training session, you give credit for the time either pre-flight or post-flight - or on the occasion when the customer comes in and receives ground training without any flight training at all, you would mark that time under Other.

Finalize / Validate Training Sessions

In this scenario, the Electronic Signature option is not turned on.
When you have finished the training session and are ready to finalize the session
Select Finalize
If your device is connected to the Internet
o The session will automatically be synced to the CTA server
If your device is not connected to the Internet
o The session will be marked with a padlock icon and will be synced
automatically the next time your device is connected to the Internet
Once synced, you can print out the training session for manual signatures
from View Training Record option in the CTA.
o Click on the Printer icon next to the session you want to print.
This feature scans the training session to ensure the session is ready for syncing.

Finalize / Validate Training Sessions

In this scenario, the Electronic Signature option is turned on.
When you have finished the training session and are ready to sync the session
Select Validate o This process verifies the session is ready for Electronic Signature
This feature scans the training session to ensure the session is ready for Electronic Signature.

Errors
In this example, the validation process produced an error that stated the, "Training session scheduled must be in the past".
You won't be able to sync or sign this session until this error is fixed.
To fix this error
Select Close Click on the Calendar icon in the session
Correct the date
Select Validate

To electronically sign for the training session
Select the Signatures Tab - This tab will only be visible if your CTA has been set up for
Electronic Signatures.
Tap on the field to be signed
The field will pop open and is ready for the "fingnature"
o Select Clear to clear out the signature and start over
o Select Accept to accept the signature
o Select Cancel to cancel out
The system will not accept simple stroke signatures like a line
If the customer's signature is required (This is a CTA setting) the customer must sign the training session first, before the instructor can sign electronically.

If the customer's signature is not required, the CFI can
Sign the record
Select Accept If your device is connected to the Internet
o The session will automatically be synced to the CTA server
If your device is not connected to the Internet
o The session will be marked with a padlock icon and will be synced
automatically the next time your device is connected to the Internet
If the customer's signature is required (This is a CTA setting) the customer must sign the training session first, before the instructor can sign.
If both the customer's signature and the CFI's signature are required
The customer must sign the session first.
Both sign the record
Both need to select Accept If your device is connected to the Internet
o The session will automatically be synced to the CTA server
If your device is not connected to the Internet
o The session will be marked with a padlock icon and will be synced
automatically the next time your device is connected to the Internet

If a customer calls to reschedule a training session
Select the session in the Session Tray
Select the Calendar icon
Reset the date and time to the new date and time
Select Reschedule It

Select the record by tapping on the checkmark in the circle
The circle will change to green with a white checkmark
Select the Trash icon on the menu

To view the history of all synced session and trashed sessions
Select History at the bottom of your screen
From this screen, you can remove items sent to the Trash by

Session Status
There are 3 status levels for training sessions
A session outlined in red indicates there is training recorded but the session has not been
finalized or in the case where electronic signatures are permitted, the session has not been
validated and signed.
A session outlines in green indicates the session is scheduled but no training has taken place.
A session outlined in gold indicates the session is locked and will be synced the next time you
have an internet connection.

Training sessions will automatically sync to the CTA once a training session has been Finalized or Validated with Electronic Signatures if you have an Internet connection.
If you do not, the session will have the "Padlock" status and will sync

Can't Find a Training Session
Make sure you are viewing the correct screen.
The Calendar view will show the sessions scheduled, and waiting to be synced - You can tell you are
in the Calendar view if the History button is on the bottom of your screen.
The History view will show the sessions synced, and sessions sent to the trash - You can tell you are
in the History view if the Calendar button is on the bottom of your screen.
