Background:
India and its neighboring countries are rapidly growing with more open economies. In view of such circumstances, improvements of food safety standards and/or food safety control systems within the region are increasingly important to ensure fair food trade and to protect public health. The Conference, therefore, aims to share information and to build
capacity in the food safety control systems among the countries and further to identify needs for the future.
Objectives are to:
1) Share information about food safety control systems in SAARC countries and also other Asian countries
2) Understand Codex standards, their scientific basis and use for protecting public health and ensuring fair trade practices
3) Identify infrastructure needs for modern food safety control systems
4) Identify and discuss about possible future actions
Expected outcomes are to:
1) Promote harmonization in food safety standards and/or food safety control systems
2)Build the network among food safety authorities in the region3)Identify specific issues and needs of each countries for future capacity building activities
