Introducing the 1st AnnualSaxon Commonwealth Games
What is a Saxon?A member of the Germanic tribe that eventually
settled in current-day England in an area called Saxony.
They were known as the Anglo-Saxon tribe.
They established Great Britain, and the places they ruled were called the Commonwealth.
History Behind the Games The British Empire started an Olympic-type games for their Commonwealth
nations in the 1930s.
John Astley Cooper, creator the games, wanted to promote goodwill and understanding of the British Empire.
The emphasis of the the Commonwealth Games is mental and physical strength.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games were the most recent.
Games include: wrestling, weightlifting, water polo, rugby, handball, etc.
Bring it to South Salem High SchoolWe want to promote goodwill and understanding
of the AVID Program at South– similar to the Commonwealth Games.
And there’s nothing wrong with a little friendly competition.

Event #1Immediately following the AVID Program picture, each class will
perform their AVID class cheer (approx. 30 seconds or less) in front of the other classes and a panel of three judges.
The judges will score each class on the following– creativity, enthusiasm, and unity.
Create an awesome cheer because the JUNIORS are going to win!!
