Options Considered
- Reconfigure Naper’s existing space - Close Naper as a student attendance center - Build on to Naper
- Reduce the number of students assigned to Naper
Reconfigure Naper’s existing space
• Grade level classroom in the music room
• Art in the music room
• Art or music on a cart
• Reconfigure the LRC to accommodate art class
• Reconfigure the two largest classrooms
• Place a Mobile classroom on the Naper site
Close Naper as a student attendance center
• Majority of students are walkers
• Located In the heart of downtown Naperville
• Site of the original Naper Academy…one block from the Joseph Naper Homestead
• Naper Elementary School is a highly visible testament to the commitment Naperville has made to education over the past 165 years
Build on to Naper
• Naper’s site will not accommodate an addition large enough to meet increased enrollment
• Current fiscal concerns do not justify an addition with available room in other District schools
Assign a grade level to another school
• Opens two classrooms
• Reduces the number of students attending Naper
Assign a grade level to another school
Two options • Move Kindergarten program
• Move 5th grade program
Move Kindergarten Program
• Adds an additional transition for our youngest students
• Adds an additional school for parents to navigate
Move 5th Grade Program to Washington Jr. High School
• Naper students currently matriculate to WJHS
• Matriculation is accelerated but early move does not add additional transition for students
• Careful planning will ensure a strong and developmentally appropriate instructional program
• WJHS can accommodate 5th grade with some adjustments
Benefits
• Strong cohesive academic programing
• Families continue the Naper, WJHS, NNHS feeder school pattern
• Dedicated art room
• Room for an additional section if needed
• Refreshed LRC space available every period of the day
