Install PST Capture
To use Microsoft Exchange PST Capture, you must first install the PST Capture Console on a host computer
that will perform the PST import operations. You also must also install the PST Capture agent on the
computers where you will search for PST files.

Important:
You must install and configure the PST Capture Console before you deploy the PST Capture agents in your
organization.
Prerequisites
• If you intend to import the captured PSTs to an on-premises Exchange server, your organization
must be running Exchange 2013 or Exchange 2010.
• If you intend to import the captured PSTs to Exchange Online, your organization must have an
Office 365 or BPOS subscription.
• 64-bit operating system. The following Windows versions are supported:
◦ Windows Server 2012
◦ Windows Server 2008
◦ Windows Server 2008 R2
◦ Windows 8
◦ Windows 7
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.
• Windows PowerShell 3.0 (required only on the host computer where you install the PST Capture
Console).
• 64-bit version of Microsoft Outlook 2010 (required only on the host computer where you install the
PST Capture Console).
• A Central Service account. Depending on how you plan to use PST Capture, you must grant specific
rights to the service account. For more information, see the Permission Considerations for PST
Capture section in Microsoft Exchange PST Capture.
Download PST Capture
The download package for PST Capture consists of two .msi files: one for the PST Capture Console and one
for the PST Capture agent You can download these files from the Microsoft Download Center.
Install the PST Capture Console

The user account you use must be part of the local Administrators group on the computer where you want
to install the PST Capture Console.
1. In the folder where you downloaded the .msi files for PST Capture, double click PSTCapture.msi.
This opens the Microsoft Exchange PST Capture Setup wizard.
2. On the welcome page, click Next.
3. On the End-User License Agreement page, review and accept the terms, and then click Next.
4. On the Destination Folder page, specify the folder where you want to install the PST Capture
Console. You can type in a path, or click Change to browse to the desired location. After you specify
the installation path, click Next.
5. On the Service account page, specify the user name and password for the service account that the
Central Service will use to import PST files to the user mailboxes, and then click Next.
6. On the Ready to install Microsoft Exchange PST Capture page, review your installation choices,
and then click Install.
7. When installation completes, click Finish to close the Microsoft Exchange PST Capture Setup wizard.
Install the PST Capture Agent
The user account you use must be part of the local Administrators group on the computer you want to
install the PST Capture agent.

PSTCaptureAgent.msi. This opens the Microsoft Exchange PST Capture Agent Setup wizard.
2. On the welcome page, click Next.
3. On the End-User License Agreement page, review and accept the terms, and then click Next.
4. On the Destination Folder page, specify the folder where you want to install the PST Capture
agent. You can type in a path, or click Change to browse to the desired location. After you specify
the installation path, click Next.
5. On the PST Central Service page, specify the following:
◦ Server Type the name or FQDN of the host computer where the PST Capture Console is
installed.
◦ Port Type the port that the PST Central Service is configured to use. By default, the PST
Central Service uses the port 6674. If you want to use a different port, you can modify the
PST Central Service configuration. For more information, see Configure PST Capture Settings.
6. On the Ready to install Microsoft Exchange PST Capture Agent page, review your installation
choices, and then click Install.
7. When installation completes, click Finish to close the Microsoft Exchange PST Capture Agent Setup
wizard.
