Current Status of the Inspection Services in Application Process to the SISBI-POA

• Total of municipalities that are currently in application process: 47

• Federative Units that are currently in application process (SC, SP, MT, MS, GO, CE, RN,PE, AL e DF).

Applications to SISBI-POA – Situation in may 2011.

DIPOA Tasks

I – to elaborate guidelines for governmental inspection and control systems for animal products – formulation of agriculture and livestock policy;

II – to programme, coordinate and promote enforcement of activities of sanitary and industrial inspection and control of animal products;

III – to promote operational and enforcement-technical audits of activities under DIPOA competences;

IV – to formulate proposals and to participate in negotiations of international agreements, treaties or pacts, concerning issues related to the inspection of animals products in conjunction with other organizational units of the Ministry;

V – to coordinate elaboration and promotion of enforcement, follow-up and evaluation of programs and actions of the Department.

industries processing animal products, according to the Law 7.889/89.

DIPOA responsibilities - Slaughterhouses

1. Ante-mortem inspectionAnte-mortem inspection has the objective to carry-out a documental and physical verification of the animals before slaughter. It aims to ensure that the animals are in adequate conditions for slaughter. Any suspect case implies in a clinical examination of the animal or animals involved, proceeding to isolation of the whole lot, if necessary and applying appropriate animal sanitary measures policies that each case demands.

– post-mortem inspection - consists on the examination of all organs and tissues, covering observation and evaluation of its external characteristics, palpation and opening of correspondent lymph nodes, besides incisions over organs parenchyma, as necessary.
