INSIDE THE HUMAN BODY

ESOPHAGUSCarries the food from the mouth to the stomach. It is a muscular tube lined with mucous.

STOMACHIt is an organ that digests food. The food enters the stomach from the esophagus and exits to the large intestine.

INTESTINESThe intestines finish digesting the food and pass the waste out of the body through the anus.

LUNGSLungs are situated behind the ribs. They are 2 elastic sacks that take in air so that oxygen can enter the blood. Lungs breathe out carbon dioxide.

HEARTThe heart is a muscle. It pumps blood around the body through veins and arteries.

The soft heart muscle is protected by bones. You can find the heart behind the ribs.

BLOODthe red liquid that circulates in the arteries and veins of humans and other vertebrate animals, carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body.

VEINS ARTERIESVeins (BLUE) carry oxygen-depleted blood from the body to the heart.Arteries (RED) carry the oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body.

SPINE(BACKBONE)

The spine is row of connected bones down the middle of the back. It protects the spinal cord.

SKELETONThe skeleton is structure composed of bone and cartilage that protects and supports the soft organs, tissues, and other parts of a vertebrate organism.

BONESBones are hard tissues that make up the skeleton

SKULLA skull is made up of bones and forms the head of most vertebrates. The skull protects the brain.

JAWA jaw is made up of two bones that form the mouth and hold the teeth in place

MUSCLESMuscles are body tissues that can contract and produce movement.

JOINTA joint is a place where two bones meet or come together.

CARTILAGECartilage is a flexible type of connective tissue. The outer ear is made of cartilage.

LIGAMENTLigaments tie bones to other bones. The knee has ligaments so that the bones won’t separate.

TENDONSTendons tie muscles to bones. If we did not have tendons, the muscles would fall off our bodies.
