Mrs Chansler was bornJuly 28, 1937 in Detroit, MI.She had been a resident ofAuburn. She was raised onFonda Lake in Brighton, MIwhere she met her futurehusband, Bill, at the localroller skating rink. Theywere married in June 1957as Bill entered a careerin the US Air Force.Mrs Chansler faithfullyfollowed her husbandaround the world doingwhat the Lord put her onthe planet to do, create aloving and nurturing homefor her family and caringfor those around her. Shejust loved to cook andfound great joy indiscovering new recipes tomake for her family andfriends. Her children grewup to be happy, healthyand independent with aclear understanding thathome isn’t necessarily aspecific place, but "home iswhere Mom is". Mom gotback around to doing herown thing as the kids weregoing through high schoolin Maryland. She complet-ed her BS degree at BowieState College after starting20 years earlier at theUniversity of Michigan.She then began a 20 yearcareer as a Librarian forAnne Arundel County, MD,serving in various locationsas the children’s librarian,reading stories and helpingthe little ones. She alsoloved the challenge ofresearching the answers tomany eclectic questionsshe was asked by inquisi-tive patrons. She retired to

patrons.provide end of life care forher mother, Mamie Strake,before moving to Auburnin 2001. She quicklybecame a part of Auburn inmany ways. As a life-longlearner, she especiallyenjoyed attending Ollieclasses with Bill and had agreat time with all thewonderful people there.She was an active memberof the St Michael’sBereavement Ministry andenjoyed water aerobics atAuburn University andworking out at HealthPlus.She will be missed.

Robert S. Liu of Auburn,Alabama, passed away onTuesday, July 15, 2014 atthe age of 90. He was bornin Sichuan, China. Robertwas surrounded by hisfamily, nurses, and friendsat Oak Park nursing home.He is survived by hischildren son, Steve Liu;daughter-in-law, LindaLiu; son-in-law, James MBeach; daughter, WeiBeach; as well as hisgrandchildren Allen Liu,and Andrew Liu.

Robert immigrated toAmerica from Taiwan in1967. Robert lived mostof his life in New Jerseyand the New York area.Robert graduated fromthe Chinese Air ForceAcademy, and retired as1st/Lieutenant fromTaiwan. During 1952-1953Robert was trained to fly aP-51 Mustang in the USAFAircraft Controllers School,Tyndall Air Force Base, FL,and Kessler Air Force Base,MS.

Wayne was retired fromHuguley Water Systemwhere he served as watersuperintendent for 43years. When he retired, hecould say that he oversawevery foot of water linesthat were installed. Heloved his customers andregardless of weather, heserved them, faithfully,night or day.

He was a member of theAlabama National Guardfor 7 years and participatedin three major events inAlabama that involved CivilRights. In 1963 he wasfederalized and presentwhen George Wallacestood in the door at theUniversity of Alabama. In1963 he was sent toBirmingham to helpmaintain order when theblack church was bombedand four little girls werekilled. He was sent toMontgomery, in 1965, toprotect the leaders of thosewho marched from Selma

who marched from Selmato Montgomery.

Mr. Rhodes has been apart of the Opelikacommunity since 1954working with the HamiltonBakery which later becameFlowers Baking Companyof Opelika. Mr. Rhodesworked up throughthe sales department tobecome President of theOpelika plant in 1975 andremained until hisretirement in 2005. Mr.Rhodes had over 50 yearsof service with FlowersBaking. Mr. Rhodes wasinvolved in variousorganizations and servedin leadership roles. Mr.Rhodes was a longtimesupporter, and avid fan ofhis beloved Auburn Tigers.He served on the Board ofDirectors of CompassBank, and served in theKiwanis Club where heserved as President in 1986.He was also presentlyserving on the CemeteryCommittee for Opelika.

Mr. Rhodes is precededin death by his father, OthaHeflin Rhodes; mother,Dorothy Baker Rhodes, andhis first wife Tommie GuyRhodes.

Henry Julius Stern, alifetime resident ofOpelika, Alabama, passedaway on Thursday July17th, 2014, at East AlabamaMedical Center. He was 82years of age.

Henry was preceded indeath by his beloved wife,Roslyn Brock Stern. He issurvived by his daughter,Virginia (Ginger), his son, J,one sister, Lora (Dean)Coleman, his nieces, Julie(Rick) Golson, Linda(Mark) Epstein, Sandi(Mark) Cross and Dee(Harold) Boatright andmany beloved relatives.

Henry was born onSeptember 4, 1931, toArnold and Hedwig Sternin Westheim, Germany. OnJune 16, 1937, at the urgingof his uncle, Julius andaunt, Amelia Hagedorn,Henry, his sister, Lora, hismother, father, uncleand grandmother, leftHamburg, Germany, on theS.S. Washington, the lastship of Jews escaping theNazi moratorium on Jewsleaving Germany. Thefamily arrived in Opelika toa city wide welcome.

Henry was educated inthe Opelika School System,attended Auburn Universi-ty, served in the UnitedStates Navy, and returnedto Opelika where he metand married, Roslyn Brock.He soon became a partnerin Hollingsworth, Normanand Stern, an Opelika
