• The peanabout solution geometry provides the requisite low speeds to allow gaps for entry vehicles .• Joining two intersections  (five legs) into one. • Allows storage within the intersection, including driveway access. • Allows movement across the intersecting roadways when the train causes delays. •Low cost solution (small County budget)

The right of way acquisition associated with the facility's footprint was the cost driver. The cost of right of way was variable – parcel by parcel along the length of the highway , so playing with the shape of the footprint was critical.

Project: 336 Km long,  2 lane to 4 lane conversion :  3 major urban centers: Recife , Joao Pessoa, Natal in 3 states Assembled into 8 contracts adding to USD $ 800 million .  

Study involved eight team members and included a week long field trip.

Study Objectives:

1‐ improve the  delivery of the key project objectives:  congestion relief / safety improvements2‐ reduce the impact of discontinuous funding 3‐ Provide a corridor analysis  with a large variety of alternatives in scope, cost and schedule that can deliver the project objectives

KEY RECOMMENDATIONS:• Partial Lane Conversion Alternatives• Typical Section Alternatives • Urban Solutions  • Pavement Rehabilitation Alternatives • Access Improvement Alternatives • Roadway Safety Improvement Alternatives.

8 new project alternatives were developed with equivalent or better performance in safety and congestion relief with savings potential from 40 to 80% of the original costs with better potential to break down into smaller and more numerous contracts.

Art Gallery– Daegu City: Public Private Partnership“ Using VE to develop a Bidder’s Proposal, Earning $”

Study allowed the bidder to score the highest in the performance qualifications with the highest costs (capital $47 million).  A key strategy was to develop third party revenue sources that could be used to offset the operating and maintenance costs (and win the bid) or in this case, operate restaurants, cafes and “after hour events” not in conflict with the City of Daegu’s Art Gallery operation.
