Take a moment to think about what we know about whiteboards…

Think:What were they like when we were in Elementary

School?

-Middle School? -High School?

What Do We Want To Know About Whiteboards?

What types of whiteboards are teachers using today?

How does it benefit our students? What content areas we can teach

with them? What we can do with them?

This is What I Know…

-“Whiteboards” in Elementary school were chalkboards!

-Same for Middle school.

-Dry erase whiteboards were being used in High school.

BUT NOW…

The Smartboard!

This is the white board that is most common today.

Until most are taught how to use it, they do not realize that it is such an interactive whiteboard!

Teachers must train how to use this whiteboard and practice what they have learned in order to implement new techniques properly.

Whiteboards continued…

Using a whiteboard, students have the opportunity to work collaboratively with one another.

Can be used in conjunction with any content area.

Social Studies

Graphic organizers and Venn diagrams can be shown right in front of the class. While everyone watching the teacher, they can also be following along at their desk.

English Language Arts

Stories can be written as a class. Lessons can be saved for those

students who have missed school. Saves and printed right from the

whiteboard. Corrections can be made from the computer or with “the” marker, by a student, right on the board. For grammar or spelling purposes.

Math and Science

Students can stand in front of the class and perform the problem with the given marker or tools.

Certain tools found online allow for simulations and explorations by saving the math manipulative to a file and manipulating them on the screen.
