Spectrum for IMTIMT--20002000 Services
• ITU identified core band for terrestrial IMT-2000 services operate in the FDD mode in the bands :
– 1920 - 1980 MHz for mobile stations transmitting (UpLink)
– 2110 - 2170 MHz for base stations transmitting (DownLink)
Competing Standards• ITU setup global standards for third-generation (3G)
wireless communications
• Two of Five standards competing in 3G technology, these are :– WCDMA– CDMA2000
• Compatibility– WCDMA : backward compatible with GSM system – CDMA2000 : backward compatible with cdmaOne (IS-95)
systems

Potential Interference Potential Interference
Type of Potential Interference issues that would arise in such PCS-WCDMA “mixed band plan” are (source : UMTS Forum –Spectrum Aspect Group)
1. The possibility of interference from PCS Base Station (BS) transmitters to WCDMA BS receivers must be considered
2. The possibility of interference from WCDMA mobile transmitters to PCS mobile receivers must be considered

IndonesiaIndonesia 3G 3G SpectrumSpectrum
Indonesia already adopted 2 technologies in 1.9 – 2 GHz band :
• PCS1900 for FWA licenses (the frequency arrangement have reversed UpLink – DownLink directions with the 3G core band)
• WCDMA for 3G licenses (already assign the license to 2 new operators, existing 2G operators willing to have 3G license)
• Mixed band : Potential 3G Interference including possibility of interference from DCS1800 BS transmitter to PCS BS receiver
• Need Field Trial to investigate on the possibility of interference and to identify appropriate guard band
3G Field Trial• Objective : to find out technical or non-technical occurrence in 3G operational and
investigation on the possible interference.
• Implementer : 3 (three) GSM existing-operators (Telkomsel, Indosat and Excelcom) with participation from local academic/university
• Interference scenarios – Space separation :
a. Identify minimum separation distance between MS to MS and BS to BS Antenna (3G to FWA)
b. Coverage performance of 3G BS (cell breathing)
– Frequency Separation (GuardBand) :a. C1 (1945 – 1950 MHz / 2135 – 2140 MHz) = 10 MHz guardband availableb. C2 (1950 – 1955 MHz / 2140 – 2145 MHz) = 5 MHz guardband availablec. C3 (1955 – 1960 MHz / 2145 – 2150 MHz) = No guardband available worst case
• Parameter measurement for interference analysis : Rx power, EC/Io, RSSI MS and RSSI BS
Minimum Testing Requirement
Technical :• Interference Analysis for MS to MS operation and Base Station to Base Station
operation• Guardband necessity • Carrier Frequency Arrangement (3G and FWA)• Base Station
– Co-Location– Measuring the distance parameter of Base Station facing to facing antenna– frequency carrier shifting
Business :• Interoperability between vendors and operators
– interoperability from 2G services to 3G services – Interoperability from 3G services to 3G services (different operator) especially for
voice call and data handling. • network performance • Feature services (voice call, videophone call, video streaming, mobile high speed
data)• Radius coverage• Handover from 2G to 3G
Initial Step for Interference Trial
• Implementation : 18th July 2005• Object : Star One (Indosat) and 3G Telkomsel• Location : BS Indoor JHCC Senayan• Frequency : C1 (1945 – 1950 MHz)
C3 (1955 – 1960 MHz)Star One frequency : 1960 – 1962 MHz
1962 – 1964 MHz• Space separation :
– 3G BS antenna to Star One BS antenna = 2 metre– 3G MS to Star One MS = 1 metre– BS antenna to MS = 6 metre
• Result : this initial trial has not indicated yet the interference occurence, furthermore still need evaluation in technical investigation for the next trial

Next Trial : Evaluation for Technical Investigation
• Identify location and load traffic that represents interference occurrence
• Need to prepare the appropriate tool for monitoring interference parameter
• BS to BS interference analysis– PCS-BS Tx carriers cause Core Band Rx overload (Intermodulation,
desensitization due to insufficient blocking)– Spurious emissions, Wideband noise has to be filtered out
• Criteria:– Required isolation PCS-BS Tx - Core Band-BS Rx– PCS-BS Tx power and spurious transmissions– Noise floor– Antenna coupling loss(omni = worst case)– Additional filtering and size of guard band
