Student’s Observations - Video

@ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

Advantages:

✈ We like it because you don’t have to read.✈ YouTube and videos are good for ‘How To’ . . . To learn something✈ Learn ideas in a creative way – good for innovation- demonstrations✈ Doing (making) videos help us learn how much work is done behind the scenes.

Disadvantages:

✈ 5 minute limit → no way am I watching a 10 minute video (forget about watching a hour long lecture). Must be short

✈ Built in ads are annoying.

Collaboration

@ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

Web-based software sites allowing users to create and edit documents

online while collaborating with other users in real-time.

On-Line Collaboration

Google Docs -- Quiz

Student Observations - Collaboration

Responses

✈ Good for teams (group work)

✈ It’s a group thing

✈ We should teach in BUS1270

✈ Facetime is good for collaboration also.

✈ Hangout works for people without an iPhone

Negative

✈ Formatting is different

✈ Students never used office 2003 or anyone of the non-visual interfaces

✈ They would be horrified by our old green screens and WYSISYG interface

✈ There are glitches and sometimes freezes with multiple people editing the same document

✈ Microsoft 360 has issues at Castleton due to security layer

Blogs

@ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

Information / Discussion site that allow users to

publish on-line and allow their viewers to post

comments.

Blogs

Student’s Observations - Blogs

Responses

✈ Don’t read them

✈ Google or YouTube for information instead of blog

✈ Should have asked about Google results

✈ Would rather we set up a webpage for class, using Wix, than write a blog

✈ Not relevant to us

✈ You have to want to (read a blog to do it)

Micro Blog

@ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

Microblogs are very short posts used to

exchange small elements of content, i.e.

short comments, videos, and images.

Marketing Course

Twitter Feed for a Management Course

Student’s Observations - Twitter

Responses

✈ We like short format that is to the point

✈ We ignore links for the most part

✈ The pictures are the best, visual

✈ More current and up to date, instant

✈ Best chance to have a celebrity interact with you.

✈ We follow #tags for sports, find out what other people think on topic. Like at weddings,

conferences and live events.

✈ We like how easy it is to share

✈ 140 characters is fine, we are used to it.

✈ Not everyone has Twitter

✈ Content has a very short life span

✈ All social media is tied to phone

✈ Mobile is no longer a special category, it is part of life

Social Network Sites (SNS)

@ACBSPAccredited #ACBSP2016

Web based sites designed to build social networks or

social relations among individuals with similar interests,

activities, backgrounds or real-life connections.

Course Page

1) Create a Professional Profile page

2) Creating a course group

3) Upload Content

✈ Platform for homework & revision

resources

✈ Post questions, videos & resources

4) Monitor

Student’s Observations - SNS

Advantages:

✈ See others opinions

✈ “Cleanest social media” because parents are on site (we have moved to Instagram and twitter)

✈ Choice of words, pictures, sentiment

✈ Reserved behavior, very public

✈ To keep in touch with old friends (High School) and Family

✈ Good to use to contact someone – modern phone book.

Disadvantages:

✈ To see what you don’t care about, no choice but to see everyone’s stuff

✈ Parents

✈ People rage behind the blind eye of the keyboard and post radical opinions

✈ Sense of dissatisfaction, like accounting, a necessary evil

Student’s Observations - Instagram

Responses

✈ “Girls post better pictures”

✈ Less drama – pictures are focus and not text

✈ Again, no reading

✈ More personal than others

✈ Visually based, has a “Lifestyle” element that makes if feel more “real”

✈ Simple video, 15 seconds, competing with Vine

✈ # for groups and friends

✈ Different, picture oriented

✈ Quick, simple to use, easy to comment

✈ Naturally mobile

✈ Do not use for classes or follow orgs

Negative

✈ Real time if you post at 2AM, some may not see

✈ Open public but students have a different view of privacy. They do not see as a problem.
