Thursday, July 23Mental Health & the High-Achieving Student: This program is for both studentsand their parents, as it examines some common mentalities that are held by highachieving students, like those who attend Oxford College. In particular, we’lldiscuss ways in which these pervasive norms can lead to mental health concerns,but they don’t have to, if we have some awareness and alternative mindsets tooffer. Monday, July 27Parenting from a Distance: Part 2 of a 3-part series. Parenting a college studentoften appears, on the surface, to represent a diminished role in parenting. In fact,parenting continues, but shifts to different strategies for college students. Thisprogram will provide some tips on parenting from a distance, including how thiseven applies to students who may be remaining at home to access RemoteLearning, as your student does move further into the stages of young adulthood.Note: This event is open to parents and guardians only.

This program willarticulate some expected challenges and offer suggestions on how to minimizetheir impact, academically, socially, and emotionally. Hosted by the Director ofOxford’s Counseling and Career Services and our Associate Dean for AcademicAffairs, we’ll introduce ways to navigate this unique time to be a college student.Note: This event is open to incoming students and their parents/guardians.

As an entering Oxford student, you have accessto Inside Oxford, an internal website for currentstudents, faculty, and staff. Inside Oxford includeslinks to the college catalog, shuttle schedule, finalsschedule, and most of the critical information youneed to thrive at Oxford.

To access Inside Oxford at any time, click thebutton found in the upper right hand corner ofthe Oxford College website, and enter your Emory Network ID andpassword. Student Health Services visits are free for all students! We also have someprocedures, services, medical supplies, and both prescription and over-the-counter medications available. All charges are billed through your bursaraccount within OPUS.

Don't forget, you will automatically be enrolled in the Emory student healthinsurance plan unless you submit an online insurance waiver in your OPUSaccount by September 15. Please remember to print your confirmationpage to verify your status. Religious & Spiritual Life offers a range of services and opportunities foryou at Oxford College. Led by the College Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Lyn Pace, wehave 10 religious and spiritual life groups for you to explore and join.Pastoral care and confidential counseling services are also available to allstudents.

One of our signature events of the year is the annual fall retreat. This year'sretreat is currently being designed and will be offered virtually. For moreinformation about the retreat or any aspect of this office, please contactRev. Pace at ppace@emory.edu.

What's Next?

Canvas and Placement Exams: All incoming students are required tocomplete the online Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas Course(Module 1 and Module 2 in particular). There is important informationabout preparing for academics at Oxford, class registration, and placementexams. You can log in to Canvas with your NetID and password here.

Once students complete Modules 1 and 2, they are eligible to attend a largegroup pre-planning meeting with the Advising Support Center. Theschedule of these sessions (held via Zoom) can be found in Module 2 in thesection "Scheduling with the Advising Support Center." All academicplacement exams, including the First-Year Writing assignment, have apriority deadline of August 1. If you do not complete them by that time, youmay have difficulty signing up for classes during class registration, whichbegins the week of August 10. Don't wait until the last minute to take theseexams!

If you have questions about placement exams or content in the Canvascourse, please contact the Advising Support Center atoxadvising@emory.edu. We will add information about informationsessions, including placement exam sessions, in the weeks ahead. Pleasefollow in Module 2 of Canvas, as the information will be updated in thatspace.

Student Employment: The Oxford College Federal Work Study programwill be using a job search tool called Handshake. You will have access tosearch for jobs in August. Stay tuned for more information about this. Forquestions in the meantime, please contact ox-studentemployment@emory.edu. New Student Orientation: The Oxford Olympics Orientation program iscoming soon! The program will launch virtually the week of August 10. Youdon't need to register or prepare in advance, and you will receive an emailwith all the information you need to participate. We can't wait to meet yousoon! Questions?
