The Maryland 4-H Youth Development Program
provides a supportive and inclusive setting for all
youth to reach their fullest potential in a diverse
society. Youth learn beneficial and cognitive life
skills through community focused, research-based
experiential education programs.

Community Clubs
Youth engaged in transformational environments with high con-
text and high content opportunities to belong, master skills, influ-
ence others and learn the meaning of service.
Short Term High Quality Experiences
Youth engaged in high quality school enrichment, afterschool,
camp and other special interest programs where youth gained
skills in science, healthy living and citizenship.
55% of members were involved in projects
supporting sciences.
34% of members were involved in projects
supporting Healthy Living.
45% participated in Civic Education and
Community Service projects.
4-H Military Partnership
Eight military installations in Maryland and 19 US Army and
Navy installations overseas are supported by Maryland
4-H. Special grants for Navy STEM Camps and Air Force
Camps and worldwide Air Force STEM programming has
earned Maryland 4-H national and international acclaim.
The Maryland 4-H Foundation provided over $1 Million in youth development program support during 2015. This funding supports
regional , National, and international programs, trips and scholarships.

Maryland 4-H Participation & Impacts
Health Rocks! - Over 2000 youth were engaged in this
program on the Mid and Lower Eastern Shore in 2016 which
sought to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage
positive behaviors.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles & Self
Acceptance
Fostering Exploration & Creativity in Arts & Sciences
AGsploration- A University of Maryland Extension signature program focused
on increasing appreciation of Maryland Agriculture and the number of youth
pursuing post-secondary degrees and careers in the agricultural science
field. In Maryland, 146 lessons were taught to 6,138 program participants. The
program has increased knowledge and appreciation of Maryland agriculture
and created a network of trained individuals to sustain programs.
4-H Career Pathway program- This initiative sponsored by Lockhead Martin
allows youth to explore, learn, practice and experience STEM careers. $192k
has been received by Lockhead Martin to support STEM education in Baltimore
City and Baltimore, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties.
11,130 STEM encounters have been made since 2015 and 16 corporate or
organizational partnerships have been made to support STEM efforts (NASA,
libraries, USDA, faith-based institutions, school s and Andrews Air Force Base) ,
schools and Andrews Air Force Base)

Nurturing Social Empowerment &
Resilience
4-H Summer Camp
Youth overwhelmingly expressed positive responses
regarding their summer camp experience specifically
indicating feeling safe at camp and happy with their
individual accomplishments during the program.
Camp offered youth the opportunity to make new friends
while also helping youth learn to respect and accept
others who may be different from them.
Improving College & Workforce
Readiness
Teen Corps- A nationally 4-H peer reviewed curriculum
developed in Baltimore City, Maryland. Over 200 youth ages
12-18 have developed skills in leadership, service learning,
entrepreneurship, workforce readiness and STEM. Youth facilitators
then reached 370 club members and 1,000 community members
to implement sustainable initiatives.
Community Service Projects - 4-H youth have utilized skills through
prior 4-H programs and activities when they implement service
projects to better their community and greater society. Several
thousand hours have been logged by 4-H youth for community
service projects across the state.
Building Community & Civic Engagement
Developing Leadership Skills for Life
4-H Ambassadors Program- Youth engage in regular leadership
meetings to develop skills in planning, public speaking, confidence
and critical thinking. Youth are prepared to be the voice of their
community, present to elected officials and engage in various
community projects.
State Council- Youth aged 13-18 from across Maryland organized
and implemented three advocacy activities focused on Agricul-
ture Literacy. Youth gained experience in planning and organiza-
tion, communication. Teamwork,
