Pane Choices

Clips: Work withimported clips and

still images.

Themes: Build graphical openers titles, and

bumpers usingpre-built themes.

Media: Import mediafrom other iLife applications;music from iTunes, soundscreated in GarageBand,

photos/images from iPhoto.

Editing: Create titles, add visual transitions,

and create effects.

Chapters: Create DVD or podcast chapter markers

before sending yourvideo to iDVD or

iWeb.

Editing Order of Operations

1. Drag your clips in2. Trim your clips3. Add titles

– Add a Title at the beginning of the movie– Add a title at the end of the movie (credits)

4. Then, apply effects5. Finally, use transitions between clips

• Note: professional projects use VERY FEW transitions

6. Add sounds/music last– Do you need to record any narration?– Do you need to lay any sound clips or music?

7. Export when done to CD-ROM quality1. CD-ROM quality is good for uploading to YouTube or

TeacherTube

Trimming Video

• Play your video to where you want to cut it

• Pause the video– Hint use or arrow keys to go frame by

frame if you need to be precise

• Go to Edit Split Video Clip at Playhead• Delete the clip you don’t want or click,

hold and drag it back to Clips Pane for using later if needed

Adding Titles• Under EDITING Pane• Use these arrows to

choose direction effectwill start/move from

• Pick color of font• + will add more lines

- will subtract lines• Choose font, size, speed,

title pause and whether or not title should be over video or over black

Exporting Video• Either

– Edit Export– Or Share QuickTime

• Choose CD-ROM quality for exporting the video out to a format that will upload to YouTube or TeacherTube effectively

• If you want high quality like DVD, choose DV format for Digital Video

• OR…if you want to send it to a DVD, choose iDVD

Uploading

• Where can you upload videos to?– For MDMC, we are going to upload to VoiceThread

• Other Options– YouTube (www.youtube.com): Free, up to 10 min or 1GB– TeacherTube (www.teachertube.com)

• Free, limit around 10 min or 100MB but may take more

– SchoolTube (www.schooltube.com) • When you register, they send an email saying it will take 2 days

to send you your account login (BOO!)

Last Minute Tips (if time)

• iMovie remembers the last project you were working on– File --> Close Window and then choose new project

to start

• If you use music -- NO copyrighted music please– Check the wiki for some free music share websites– Or use one of the preloaded GarageBand or iMovie
