Image Research

Cover Page Images

The indie magazines I have research all have minimal images on the cover page. The dominant image on the page tends to be a close up or medium shot of the subject. The subject uses a direct mode of address capturing the readers attention, they have serious facial expressions creating mystery and encouraging the reader to find out what the artist is about.

Contents Page Images

Most contents pages tend to be dominated with images, one of the indie magazines ‘MOJO’ (pictured to the left) subverts this by going for a minimalistic look. This is something worth considering when looking at images for my own contents page however I think the more images the more appropriate it will be for a younger audience, which my magazine is targeted at.

Double Page Spread Images

A majority of indie magazines have a dominant image taking up the whole left hand side of the page. The images either have blank or simplistic backgrounds. The artists all use a direct mode of address but use various facial expressions ranging from serious to almost humorous, I think this depends on the artist.
