How to write a good objective

One quick and easy way is to use the ABCD method:

CONDITION

DEGREE

A = Audience

Who? Who are the learners?

B = Behavior

What? What do you want your learners do?

This must be an observable, measurable behavior.

Use a strong, action verb.

C = Condition

How? What are the circumstances or context of the learning?

What will the student be given to accomplish the learning?

D = Degree

How much? To what degree of mastery?

How much do you want accomplished? How well do you want something done? What is passing? What is acceptable?

Example 1

After reading the book, The Wizard of Oz, students will write a two-page book report that includes a summary, a description of three characters and the setting, and an evaluation of one metaphor.

Given a sentence written in the past or present tense, the students will orally rephrase each sentence in the future tense with no errors.

• Enunciate 3 objectives for the course using ABCD.
