What is Hydropower?It is power/electricity that is generated

when water behind a dam is allowed to pass through, causing a series of events to occur that lead to the production of electricity.

Advantages of hydropower:

No pollutants!Compared to : Nuclear Power Plant.

:Thermal Power Plant

Say no to greenhouse gases

Saving natural resources

COAL

A predictable renewable source of energy

Dams as a water reservoir

Store huge amount of water.Save water not to waste in sea or ocean.Safeguard of supply of water all seasons.

Disadvantages of hydroelectric powerEmission of methane and carbon dioxide-

Disturbance of habitatArea: Flooded with water.

Plant : Destroyed due to flooded area.

Relocation: Human, animals and birds etc.

Installation costs

Cost Involves -:Building/Construction of dam.

:Instaillation of Turbines.

: Labour/Human Capital.

: Maintenance Cost

Fish killing

By - : Nitrogen reactions

: Damage the Reproduction of fishes

Limited useOnly those area where: -

: Area with heavy rainfall.: Continuous natural Source.: Huge Reservoirs of water
