Ever lead a meeting that turned out to be a

disaster?

It may not have been…

…your fault.

Yes.

There are many ways a meeting can be

sabotaged.

It happens all of the time.

Here are a few epic ways to sabotage a

meeting.

1. Bring Your Taffy

Sabotage Tip

Taffy is irrelevant to the meeting and can be very distracting.

And, it locks your mouth shut so you couldn’t answer a

question if you had to.

True Story: Tom entered a meeting with a gallon tub of taffy and an empty bucket. He proceeded to keep his

mouth full while also building sculptures out of taffy. By the end of the meeting the

empty tub was full of wrappers, the attendees were entertained, and

nothing had been accomplished.

2. Encourage Personal Calls

Sabotage Tip

Family should come first, no matter what.

You might as well tolerate as much as possible,

even swearing.

True Story: Three examiners were giving an exit meeting to a room of executives at the bank they just examined. The mobile phone of one of the examiners rang and, to the surprise of the

executives, the examiner answered it.

The examiner quickly got upset and began yelling ,

even swearing to the person on the other end.

It was his wife. To the astonishment of the

executives, the other two examiners proceeded until

the swearing was too much – they politely asked

him to take it outside.

3. Practice Soft Edges

Sabotage Tip

Don’t even think about starting or ending on time.

And, why not encourage your senior leaders to

arrive late and make a big scene?

True Story: A meeting that started seven minutes late was interrupted fifteen minutes into

the meeting when the COO finally made his entrance. After asking what he had missed, the

presenter took ten minutes representing what the rest of the

group had just heard.

Once caught up on the presentation, the executive

decided it was time to unpack his lunch (this was not a

luncheon). Since he forgot a knife, he got up, walked to the back to get his knife, returned

and began to eat. All eyes were on him.

There is nothing like a good sabotage for

an unwanted meeting.
