How to create a successful marketing strategy

6 Steps to Success:

Step 1:Define your objective.

The big question… Why are you doing this?

Awareness:

Not enough people know about my business. I want more people to know about my business.

Brand building:

People don’t know what my company is about. I want people to have a clear idea of what I stand for and stand our from competitors.

Changing perception:

People have the wrong idea about my business. I want to change people’s minds so that they will consider my company.

Sales:

I want to grow my business and I want to sell my product or service to more people.

This is why I am doing this! Always keep your goals in mind.

Always be conscious of what you want to achieve and never lose sight of your goals!

Whether it’s awareness, branding, perception management or sales, your strategy should help you achieve your aims.

Your goals will determine your entire strategy. If they shift, your strategy needs to adapt.

Never get side-tracked. Never forget why you’re doing this.

Step 2:Know your audience.

It’s not me… It’s YOU!

Your business doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Your business exists because you have customers.

So you need to know who your customers are, what they do and what they need and want.

Based on that you can choose the right channels and messages and you can design communications that push all the right buttons, making them so much more effective.

So take a step back and think about it…

Who are your target audiences? What makes them tick?

How are your product and brand relevant to them?

How can you reach them?

Step 3: Select your channels.

It’s not about being everywhere… It’s about being in the right place!

It’s not about whether a channel is hot… It’s about whether it’s right for you.

Selecting the right channels for your communications can feel daunting. To make the right choice, you need to understand what a communication channel can do for you.

For instance, can it help you achieve your goals? Can it reach your target audience? How does your target audience use the channel? Is that in line with what you need?

Once you have a good understanding of this, you have the information you need to make an informed decision.

Remember: If the channel doesn’t help you achieve your goals, it’s not the right channel.

Remember: If the channel doesn’t reach your target audience, it’s not the right channel.

Remember: If your target audience doesn’t use the channel in a way that serves your purposes, it’s not the right channel.

Step 4: Create your message.

Get creative… But stay true to your brand.

The magic behind branding is consistency.

Tell your brand story in everything you do across time and space.

What makes a good story? It’s genuine.

What makes a good story? It’s relatable.

What makes a good story? It’s inspiring.

What makes a good story? It’s entertaining.

What makes a good story? It’s educational.

Step 5: Implement.

Having a well-planed strategy is not enough. The secret to success lies in the implementation.

Be strict with yourself… Implement your vision.

Trust yourself… Stick to your vision.

Share your vision… The magic lies in a good brief.

Step 6: Measure, learn and refine

Measure, learn… Then adapt your strategy.

Set-up concrete metrics in relation to your goals to assess whether your strategy is working.

Track your metrics regularly. Understand your metrics; understand what they are telling you.

Learn from this data to make informed decisions and get better every day.

Adapt your strategy based on these learnings, not on a whim.

That’s strategic marketing.
