How clothing has changedIn the Maori world
contents• Early 1800’s• Now• Future• What they wore• Making fashion statements (pictures)• How it has changed• Why did fashion change• Credits • Why I chose fashion
Early 1800’s• When Maoris emigrated from a warmer climate, into a
colder and rainier land they needed warmer clothes so they made cloaks and skirts.
• In order to adapt to rougher nature forces two types of garments progressed the Maori incorporated materials found in the forest to their clothes.
• Eg: One was a knee long kilt like garment held by a waistband called puipui. Men had the more ornate designs on their waistband.
Now • When the British came to New Zealand the
British gave Maori lots of weapons , food and clothes the Maori were influenced by the British clothes.
• Now standards have since relaxed and New Zealand has received a reputation for being casual.
Future• The future will be similar to now because the
designers would want to stay with the selling fashion.
• very little new fashion will come out in the future, a lot of the stuff will be the same. eg: high wiasted pants came in, but its not anything new.
What they wore• They wore clocks garments the materials
found in the forest to their clothes such as feathers and flax
• They also carved tikis out green stone and they also made bones and feathers for earrings.

How it has changedBritish
Maori
They wore cloaks and skirts.
Traditional British ship uniform.
They didn’t change much. Then they started to change lots.
When they came to NZ.
When they changed
Why did fashion change• Fashion wasn't always about looking
good, people used to wear clothes just for warmth!
• Fashion changed because people felt like they had to keep up with the modern world.

I chose fashion because:
I think that back then fashion was one of the most changed from the treaty because if the British didn’t come along the Maori didn’t make the deal there wouldn't be a treaty and fashion wouldn't have changes much.
