STRATEGIC RESEARCH CLUSTER (SRC)
AND PROGRAMME SUPPORT ACTIVITY (PSA)
• Horizon 2020 – Space Theme, foresees forming Strategic Research
Cluster focused on two specific topics. Already identified in the Work
Programme 2014-2015:
- COMPET3-2014: In-Space Electrical Propulsion and Station
Keeping (EP&SK)
- COMPET4-2014: Space Robotics Technologies (SRT)
• SRCs will start in 2016 and will be implemented through a system of grants – PSA
• Elaborate SRC roadmap
• Advice for operational grants
– Operational grants
• Each PSA will be granted for 4 M€ over 5 years.
PSA – ELIGIBLE PARTNERS
• ≥3 partners from ≥3 Member States or Associated States
• ESA participation to the PSA calls is admitted
• ASI responded with ESA, CNES, DLR, UKSA, CDTI, etc. to both PSA calls
• PSA partners can apply for operational grants of each SRC => possible conflict of interest ruled by EC

ASI and Horizon 2020
• ASI is charged to “Promote, sustain and coordinate the Italian participation to projects and initiatives of the European Union in Space and Aerospace»
• ASI aims to boost the Italian return and to reconcile H2020 space activities with national strategic thread of interest in the sector
• Some initiatives: – H2020 gatherings at ASI to inform, support and respond to the national stakeholders
involved in H2020 Space Theme (CTNA, SPIN-IT, Industrial Associations, Research
Institutions, Universities, etc.)
– Fostering international parterniship (e.g.. France, UK, Czech Rep., Poland)
– Encourage participation of Italian space experts to join the database of independent
experts for European research and innovation
– Involvement of national delegates on subjects other than space in H2020 (e.g. Secure
Society, FET, ICT, SME, etc.)
– Reinforce the possibility for Italian Seconded National Experts in EC
