A Gospel Reflection
Hello, I am your weekly bulletin, please take me home.
Helpful hints for this week’s readings
Don’t Miss the Invite I remember how much it hurt. I was in high school and a friend told me that I was not invited to hang out at his place because another person, who didn’t like me, didn’t want me there. Rejection. We’ve all faced it. We’ve been the last person chosen for a team. We’ve been ignored at a party. We’ve sat alone at lunch. A friend has turned on us. That’s why this week’s Gospel is such good news. God invites all people to a life full of friendship. Jesus told this parable to criticise religious leaders of his time who rejected his message. Sadly for them, they missed the feast. Jesus’ parable has two more important points. Nothing stops God’s party, and God tries to get everyone there. That’s important to remember if life isn’t much of a party for you at times, because you’re lonely or sad. During those times keep an eye out for God’s invitation. It might come through a parent who wants to listen and help. It might come through a young person who invites you to hang out with a different group of people. It might come during prayer, when warmth, peace, and hope soothe the pain that troubles your heart. It might come during that time you spend reading God’s word. But the party is going on. Millions of people worldwide have lives filled with friendship. Millions celebrate daily as they make a difference in the world. Though I struggled with loneliness as a young guy, I’ve found the party now. During those lonely times, don’t miss God’s invitation. How has God invited you to happiness during times you’ve felt hurt or lonely? On the Way Home from Mass … How can we be more inviting in our sharing with others? St Luke the evangelist was a Gentile Greek who practised medicine. He was the author of the Gospel which bears his name and also wrote a history of the early church ; The Acts of the Apostles. He travelled with St Paul; together they evangelised Greece and Rome. He was also with St Paul during his ill-fated voyage to Italy. His Gospel is largely based on St Paul’s teachings as well as his own experiences. Legend has it that St Luke was also a painter of great talent who did portraits of the Blessed Virgin, but no existing paintings have ever been correctly attributed to him. It is true, however, that his Gospel has inspired many
artists, which led to his patronage of artists as well as doctors and surgeons.
Saint Ignatius of Antioch also called Ignatius Theophoros (Greek: “God Bearer”) was born in Syria in 15 May 35 AD. Ignatius was one of 5 apostolic fathers of the Church and a student of John the Apostle. Died a martyr in Rome in 108. At Antioch, where he was bishop, his death has been commemorated on this day since the fourth century. Remembered for seven letters written on his way to execution. They show him to be devoted to Christ and resurrection: they urge Christians to unity in and through the Eucharist and around their local bishop.
Next weekend our parish will be holding the annual Catholic Mission Church Appeal. This year we are invited to participate in Jesus’ life-giving mission, supporting women and children’s health in Uganda. In Uganda bringing life into the world is often fraught with danger, with many women taking great risks to reach health facilities. Despite the tireless work of Sister Mary Goretti and her small staff at St Luke Bujuni Health Centre, they do not have the capacity to deal with the influx of high-risk pregnancies amongst the many expectant mothers who come through the doors. Please come prepared next weekend and give generously. Freecall: 1800 257 296 catholicmission.org.au/uganda

Pope Francis’ Monthly Prayer Intention
Each year, the Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. You are invited to answer the Holy Father's request and to join with many people worldwide in praying for this intention each month. In October we pray for the rights of workers and the Unemployed. That all workers may receive respect and protection of their rights, and that the unemployed may receive the opportunity to contribute to the common good. Challenges for the month
Pray for those who are unemployed, so that they do not lose hope, nor give up looking for alternatives. Become close to a relative or acquaintance who is unemployed and offer to help where possible.
Be aware of job opportunities that arise and disclose them to those who need or know who needs them.

Christmas Stall Weekend! And at Holy Spirit
Parish we like to be organised!
Our Christmas stalls will be held at every
Mass on the weekend of the 25-26 November.
We invite you to contribute to the stall by making, baking or
creating items to sell. Funds raised will go towards supporting
parish activities.
We would like items to reflect the Christmas message of joy,
peace and love of Baby Jesus. As a suggestion, here are
example items that sold well last year:
- Simple Christmas cards/gift tags
- Decorated gift bags
- Bunting/hangers or wreaths
- Simple religious items (e.g. cards or table decorations)
- Baked items or lollies/sweets in jars, boxes or bags
- Small stocking stuffers, tree ornaments or table decorations
- Chutneys and sauces
- Small plants in pots (herbs, succulents etc.)
Please RSVP your contribution by brief email or
call the Parish Office so that we know how many
tables to set up. Thank you in advance for giving
your time.

Sunday humor
God of goodness, in creating the world, you have entrusted to humanity
the care of creation. By the work of your hands,
humanity guarantees his subsistence. But so many people today are deprived of their rights,
in precarious employment conditions, which cause great concern
in relation to their future and their families. We look at so many people who have no job
and they live daily the drama of seeing their projects of life frustrated.
We ask you, Lord, that you accompany with your grace
all who live these difficulties and touch the hearts of those who decide on employment policies,
so that all may be given conditions worthy of work and sustenance,
for the good of society.
Once Winston Churchill received an invitation from George Bernard Shaw to one of his opening plays back in the early 1900s. The note read, ‘Enclosed are two tickets to the performance of a play of mine. Bring a friend - if you have one’; Churchill sent back this reply: ‘Dear GBS, I thank you very much for the invitation and tickets. Unfortunately, I am engaged on that night, but could I have tickets for the second night - if there is one.’
