The Carmel Regionof Israel is known asGod's vineyard.Mount Carmel is theholy mountainwhere the ProphetElijah challenged the450 pagan prophets ofBaal and demonstrated thesupremacy of God.

The Bible in Kings 1 Chapter18 describes the ceremonyon Mount Carmel whereElijah prepared two bulls ontwo altars, one for God andone for Baal. He invited theprophets of Baal to call ontheir deity to set theirsacrifice on fire and theywere unable to do so. Elijahthen doused his altar withwater and prayed to God,who sent fire to consume thesacrifice and his entire altar.Once Elijah haddemonstrated the power ofAlmighty God, the peopleaccepted monotheism andGod sent rain to end a long-standing drought.

Today the Carmel region isknown for its lush greenlandscapes and rich fertilesoil, with abundant vineyardsand bountiful olive groves.
