Highlights from the Tracking Sessions

12 talks in three sessions

Rough accounting:

ILD SiD Generic

6 1.5 4.5

-OR-

Gaseous Solid State

4.5 7.5

Topics sampled for summary:

• Results from TPC Large Prototype

• SiD Tracker Performance (simulation)

• TPC Pixel Readout

• TPC Backgrounds

• Charge Division for Silicon Sensors

• “Alignment Aware” Si Sensors

Plus much more (apologies…)

Results from the Large TPC Prototype at DESYKlaus Dehmelt (DESY), Hirotoshi Kuroiwa (KEK)

Large TPC prototype

30 cm longitudinal driftImmersed in 1.25 T Bfield

Readout:

Double/triple GEMMicroMeGas

+Resistive PadsPixels (TimePix)

Large TPC prototype

30 cm longitudinal driftImmersed in 1.25 T Bfield

Readout:

Double/triple GEMMicroMeGas

+Resistive PadsPixels (TimePix)

From MediPix to INGRID (Jan Timmermans, NIKHEF)

TimePix chip plus deposited grid plus stand-offs: INGRID readout system (gas-gain plus 50 m pixelated readout)

Working towards ~10cm x 10cm array

Full instrumentation of ILD TPC requires~1010 channels (same order as VXD)

SiD Tracker Performance (full-ish simulation)

Full GEANT simulation plus strategy-based pattern recognition (Richard Partridge)

Near-perfect efficiency over full range in pT , |cos|

Top pair events at Ecm = 500 GeV

SiD Tracker Performance (full-ish simulation)

Momentum resolution probed with single muons

Consistent with (pT) = 0.2% 2.810-5 pT at 90°

Charge Division for Silicon Sensors

• SCIPP built discrete resistive network (SiD “charge division” sensor not available• Benchmark PSpice simulation

Observations:• Longitudinal resolution independent of R; grows as C

• Noise dominated by network, not amplifier

• Achieve resolution of ~6% of sensor length

• Z ~ 6mm for 10cm sensor

Jerome Carman (UCSCundergraduate)

Alignment-Enabled Sensors (Alberto Ruiz-Jimeno; Cantabria)
