IMPORTANT DATES
Congratulations to the GEM Robotics team!! Last weekend at the Howell
competition, they officially finished 9th out of 40 teams, were captains of the #6
alliance and made it to the finals, earning a silver medal. The team won the
Creativity Award sponsored by Xerox. At this point, they have earned 90 district
points and are ranked 46 out of 411 teams. Our Gems team is led by CSPA
teacher and coach Elizabeth Holland along with
mentors Steven Ambrose, Carol Brenner, Roger Day,
James Garrett Sr. and CSPA alumni James Garrett Jr.
Very important is the support of Alan Peterson who
owns ASI Holding in Howell and allows our team to use
his business and machine shop. At this point, Gems are in good position to return
to the State Finals and the Worlds for the third consecutive year.
The team is always looking for sponsors. Your business logo would look great on
our championship robot so please consider sponsoring the team. Our school has
put together a world class program on the strength of our students’ intellect and
with the generous donations made by our school community. Please take a
moment to read the team’s flyer and sponsor letter, and view this great
sponsorship video made by our students and mentors. If you have not seen our
team in action, this video will give you a good idea of the support and energy our
team has generated.

SAT test day is next Tuesday, April 12
Ths is really important: Next Tuesday, April 12, CSPA High School freshman,
sophomore and junior students start their day at 7:45 AM. Seniors do not
report to school that day.
This week, I am sending all CSPA High School families a letter by postal mail that
will outline our testing day. I will also send a series of email blasts to remind you
and your student of the school start time on Tuesday, April 12. Although seniors
do not attend school that day, they are expected to use the day to complete
their Senior Presentations that they will present at the end of April.
We are supplying breakfast to CSPA High School students on SAT testing day,
organized by CSPA Parent Council. To donate a breakfast item, please go to
this signup genius site; contact Amy Knickerbocker at the CSPA High School
front desk if you have any questions. We are looking for donations of juice (in
small, individual containers), water, breakfast bars and granola bars, cheese
sticks and Baby Babel cheese, yogurt, bagels and cream cheese or peanut
butter, snack sticks (beef jerky), chocolate milk in individual containers and
other varieties of continental style snacks that students can munch on before
the test or during their break. Please help your student’s success on SAT by
donating breakfast items for testing day. We would appreciate delivery of all
breakfast snacks no later than next Monday, April 11 so we can have a nice
array of food set up on Tuesday morning.
Here is the recap. Next Tuesday, April 12 is a really important day.
Next Tuesday, April 12, school starts for CSPA High School freshmen,
sophomores and juniors at 7:45 AM. CSPA HS seniors do not attend
school that day.
Next Tuesday, April 12, school starts for CSPA Middle School students at
8:55 AM. You can drop off your middle school student at the same time
as you drop off your high school student on April 12, we are providing
early supervision that day for middle school students in Pod B.
I will send out a number of email blasts this week to remind you of next
week’s important school start time change.
Regarding CSPA internet and network access. Because of the internet
bandwidth needed to complete the upcoming M-STEP and NWEA testing,
students and guests using personal computers will not have access to our
network or wireless service from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM from April 11 until May
23. Please make sure that your student plans accordingly. School computers
will have network and internet access during the testing windows so students
who are testing and staff will be able to use both.
Congratulations to our Gems Robotics Team! Maybe April will bring our team
a state championship and even a World Championship!

Seeking CSPA Library Volunteers
The CSPA Library has a need for Volunteers! The library is a great place to interact with
middle school and high school students. We rely on volunteers to assist students and staff

12:30 PM or 12:30 - 4:00 PM and Fridays 9:00 AM -12:30 PM/ Shifts can be shared and
broken into shorter time slots. If you are interested and would like to know more about a volunteer opportunity,
please stop in for a visit or contact Diane O’Nions at 810-225-9940 x450 /donions@csaschool.org.

A Raisin in the Sun.
We are beginning to work with our next set of literary

Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. As we read, we are
focusing on character development, thematic develop-
ment, and the crucial role that setting plays in both texts.

your senior's presentation, contact Mrs. Szczembara or
Ms. Highfield.
ENGLISH 11 / Chelsea Szczembara
We are starting to read our satirical fiction novels by Ray
Bradbury, The Martian Chronicles or Fahrenheit 451.
While reading, we are looking at how this genre of
writing not only calls attention to areas of society that
are problematic but also inspires readers to work toward
changing society by solving those problems. Specifically,
we are looking at the history of the 1950s and the areas
of life in which Bradbury wanted to inspire change. As
we read, we are using literature packets focused on
features of satire and literary techniques.
