founded in October 2001 as an independent governmental academic institution

previously, science 1969, it had been a branch of Technical University of Lodz (Politechnika Łódzka)

main education areas long established the machine-design,

electrical and textile industries (traditional for the region)

also: philologies, pedagogy, sociology, management, nursing

academic staff: about 400 (with 250 professors and doctors)

students: about 7 500 at five faculties
