Introduction - Policies and Procedures

This activity will take place whilst on placement in your setting. It is ideal for you to familiarise yourself with the policies and procedures of the setting, to support you in under-standing the importance of completing tasks in a certain manner.Your Activities will include:

• Reviewing the policies/procedures in Health and So-cial Care to identify the facts and opinions.

• Highlight the procedures that you will need training for.

• Once you have completed the task, discuss these with your workplace mentor.

Learning

In this task, you will be covering the following areas:

Health and Social Care

• Basic understanding of the settings particular policies and procedures.

• Basic understanding of legislative requirements. Training skills that you may need to undertake.

Functional Skills

• Read and understand different types of text in detail

• Identify the main points and how they are presented in a variety of different types of texts

• Use language, format and structure suitable for pur-pose and audience

• Write clearly and coherently, including an appropriate level of detail 2

• Ensure written work includes generally accurate punctuation and spelling and meaning is clear in more than one type of text.

Task 1

Ask the manager for the policies and procedures and review the text to find out the key points and phrases within them. You need to read the text to identify the key points and phrases.

• Highlight the main points

• Summarise the policies

• Plan it – think about what you need to do and how you are going to do it

• Read the text to identify the key phrases.

Using the research carried out in Task one about the policies find the procedures linked to each one and list them below.

Task 3Identify activities you are undertaking in the setting, and then identify the relevant procedure to being able to complete the task. Tick which activity requires prior training and then iden-tify the required procedure.
