Judging Others(vv 1-6)

Ask, Seek, Knock(vv 7-12)

The Narrow and Wide Gates

(v 13)True and False Prophets and

Disciples(vv 15-23)The Wise and

Foolish Builders (vv 24-28)

1. JUDGING OTHERS

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Matthew 7:3-5

List of some of the hypocrisy that Jesus spoke against

Self-examine

Ask God for wisdom and for Him to change your heart

Help others, if GOD says so

So how?!

Should we not judge at all?!

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” ~ Matthew 7:6

Sow the seed of God’s word with

discernment

2. ASK, SEEK,

KNOCK

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Matthew 7:9-11

Ask - what we needSeek - what we miss/not knowKnock - what we feel ourselves are

shut from

stone - not the real thing; breadsnake - can cause hurt; fish

Persistent prayer

Honest purpose

Answer aligned with God’s will

Greek (negative)“don't do to others what you don’t want them to do to you”

All commands in a nutshell- ‘Love your neighbor as

yourself.’ (Matthew 22:39)- Put yourself in others’ shoes- Good judgment/reasonable

3. THE NARROW AND WIDE

GATES

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.Matthew 7:13-14

Luke 13:23-24

“Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”He said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.”

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6)- Obey continuously- Counter-nature- Revolution of purpose

4. TRUE AND FALSE PROPHETS

& DISCIPLES

By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Matthew 7:16-20

Fruit of the Holy Spirit(Galatians 5:22)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Buy 1,

Take All

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

Matthew 7:21-23

Let’s not miss the point!

Pursue relationship/closeness/intimacy

with Christ

5. THE WISE AND FOOLISH BUILDERS

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into

practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 2

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat

against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the

rock.

Matthew 7:22-25

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into

practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 2

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat

against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the

rock.

Matthew 7:22-25

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built

his house on sand.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds

blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

Matthew 7:26-27

“When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.”

Matthew 7:28
