Concept

Tape for back up or archives

• Hybrid Operation is becoming more and more popular with customers.• For Example, HVR-DR60 type of recording in conjunction with tape.• Hybrid Operation offers cost effective and easy archive route plus benefits of

IT workflow for NLE.• This new unit offers all the benefits of HVR-DR60 with a removable media, plus

an integrated unit with no cabling or additional power!

Why Compact Flash?

Compact Flash Offers:

• Availability – As with DV/HDV tape, Compact Flash is available in the widest possible number of outlets.

• Cost – Compact Flash offers a very cost-effective storage medium.

• Single slot as hybrid recording feature, to offer customers flexibility in recording.

• Multiple Use. Compact Flash is compatible with lots of consumer products e.g. Digital SLR’s.

Why Compact Flash?

Compact Flash v SXS:

• Speed – 110Mbps (x133/4GB) v 800Mbps of SxS- Much Slower Ingest Speeds with CF (2x for HDV footage)

• Recording format limited to 25Mbps, no HQ mode as with 35Mbps on EX1

• CF is not a slot in media like expresscard. Additional is reader required.

• Size – CF limited to 8GB at present (SxS offers 16GB with 32GB Spring 2008)

The strategy is to introduce the use of solid-state to existing DV/DVCAMand HDV users, whilst offering SxS to higher-end rich contentproducers who require best picture quality (35Mbps) AND an IT onlyworkflow

HVR-MC1 - Memory recording unit

• Uses the FAT32 File system.• Recording format is the same as HVR-DR60:

• HDV: .m2t for 1080/50i and 25p stream• DVCAM/DV: .AVI Type1/.dv

• Recommended media:• 2GB and higher, 133x and higher media required

• Recording time (HDV/DV/DVCAM):• 2GB=9min. 4GB=18min. 8GB=36min. 16GB=72min

• Data transfer rate• 110Mbps @x133/4GB (tentative) *via i.LINK

• This will be supplied as standard with the new camcorders (CF media not supplied)

Compact flash media from Sony

• High speed and high capacity media will be available from the Sony Pro Media Group

8GB media 16GB media

What is Compact Flash?

• One of a number of flash memory cards available• But…CF has a larger size compared to the other media available

= more capacity (recording time)• CF is a very popular media for Digital SLR’s

66x 133x 300x

Integrated connection with camcorder body

• Connects with a special interface.• No additional power or i-link cable required.• One-piece design.

*i.LINK interface will not be available while unit attached
