8,000 students who walked through the doors of our nine schools. Our students are already excelling in Academics, Athletics and the Arts.

Dr. Harrigan said he is proud of our faculty and proud of our start to the new school year. There are many moving parts to 8,000 students entering our schools and we have committed our hard work towards both excellence and equity for a diverse group of students geared to high standards throughout the school district.

Dr. Harrigan is pleased to introduce the new Principal of High School

East, Dr. Milton Strong. Dr. Strong is not new to the District and not new to High School East since he once roamed these halls as a student!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Dr. Milton Strong, Principal of High School East, welcomed everyone to

High School East for this evening’s Board Meeting which they are happy to host. The 2017-2018 school year has had an exciting beginning. Our students have been great, and our faculty and staff are well prepared for the classroom. Dr. Strong expressed his gratitude and thanks to his Administrative Team who he will introduce shortly. Dr. Strong also thanked PTSA President, Karen Petruzzelli, and Members of the Executive Board who have been supportive of all of our efforts.

Dr. Strong shared some projects they have been working on over the summer. They have enhanced the learning environments throughout the school, as well as the building itself. Since the High School East Auditorium is a hallmark auditorium, they have painted and added eight murals that exhibit artwork that you would find on Broadway. High School East is proud to welcome the United States Marine Band to play in the auditorium in October. The District’s Building and Grounds Department has done a phenomenal job and has worked with the PTSA to improve the landscaping. Dr. Strong also recognized the District’s Custodial Crews, Carpenters and Electricians who have worked throughout the summer improving our building. We are enhancing our MakerSpace to provide students with unlimited resources to expand their creativity. Dr. Strong explained we are expanding our Broadcasting Studio and he proudly presented a video of drone footage of the beautiful building and grounds of High School East.

Mr. Brett Kindelmann, Assistant Principal of High School East, took over

the responsibility of the Master Schedule this summer and spoke about some of our new programs and courses. He highlighted Project Lead the Way.

Mr. Paul Perskin, Assistant Principal of High School East, recognized the

amazing start to our Fall Sports Program and highlighted the standings of our sports teams. The New York State Public High School Athletic

Association chose a student at High School East to represent Section XI (Suffolk County) on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

Mr. Perskin recognized High School East Junior Matthew Weltmann for receiving this prestigious honor. Mr. Perskin also recognized High School East students Alyssa DeVilla (11th Grade) and Elijah Morrison (12th Grade) who were honored at the 23rd Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration for their contributions to becoming active citizens in the community, achieving high academic accolades, and promoting positive school culture.

Ms. Naimah Trotter, Assistant Principal of High School East, said that

while we have many clubs at High School East, she would like to share one of their newest clubs. As technology grows rapidly, we have been exploring coding in computer science. The XX Coding Club advocates for educating young women on the wonders of computer science. XX Coders hopes to close the gap between men and women in the computer science field. Ms. Trotter recognized the founder of the XX Coding Club, Aditi A. Patil.

Mr. Patrick Rendon, Assistant Principal of High School East, introduced

three students who recently received honors from the Long Island Arts Alliance. Casey Goldstein (Media Arts), Marley Jacobson (Music), and Aiden Mallon (Theater).

Dr. Strong, along with Dr. Catapano, Principal of High School West, and

Town of Babylon Councilman Tom Donnelly, representing Legislator Louis D’Amaro, is proud to honor the following students who have been named Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program:

Irene Antony High School West Elizabeth Chen High School East Adam A. Kaushik High School West Aditi A. Patil High School East Kasim M. Waqar High School East

Legislator Steve Stern could not be here this evening and he has asked to

pass along his congratulations to our five Semifinalists. We wish them the best as they continue in the competition.

Mr. Geringswald commented that he has a child at High School East and

that the environment here continues to be outstanding. He thanked Dr. Strong and the High School East Administrative Team for doing a great job.
