Objectives:

The tapes which store data due to magnatictivty .

There are Four types of magnetic tapes.

Magnetic Tapes:

i- 1/2 – inch tape real. ii- 1/ 2 – inch tape cartridge.

iii- 1/4 - inch tape real. iv- 4-mm digital audiotape(DAT)

TYPES OF MAGNETIC TAPES

1. ½ inch tape ribbon 2. Having Read/Write used for storage. Memory.

I- Half-inch Tape Real

III-Quarter-inch Stream Tape

DAT provides very high data density per inch of tape.

The tape length is either 60 meters or 90 meters .

Very high data recording density is obtained by using a special technique for data recording.

IV- 4mm digital audio tape(DAT)

Unlimited storage.

Low cost and High Data Storage in small space.

Easily portable from one place another.

Not Linked Together with multi program.

Advantages of magnetic tapes:

Access Nature is not suitable for Data storage.

Keep in Dust Free Environment, normal temperature.

Use Label Properly.

Limitations of Magnetic tape:

Sequential Data Processing.

Data backup-Stored online.

Transfer b/w two computer not link together.

Distribution of software by vendors.
