AWARDS POLICY
POLICY NAME: Gymnastics NSW Awards Policy

1. Introduction
This policy has been developed by Gymnastics NSW to recognise people who have contributed to gymnastics in New South Wales and excelled within the sport. The policy is based around the selection of two (2) categories of awards:
1. Contributed Efforts Awards e.g. Merit and Service Awards, Life Member Awards
2. Awards of Excellence e.g. Club, Coach and Athlete of the Year Awards
2. Contributed Efforts Awards
Overriding criteria for all Contributed Effort Awards shall include the requirement that recipients shall demonstrate at all times the highest standards of personal conduct, sportsmanship, integrity and participation to the benefit of the sport.
2.1 Award Types
2.1.1 Life Member Awards
A person who has contributed sustained and outstanding voluntary service to Gymnastics NSW over a long period of time in the order of 15 years.
2.1.2 Service Awards
A person who has contributed sustained and outstanding voluntary service to Gymnastics NSW over a long period of time in the order of 10 years.
2.1.3 Merit Awards
A person who has contributed sustained and outstanding voluntary service to Gymnastics NSW over a long period of time in the order of 5 years.
2.1.4 VIP Awards
A person who has contributed outstanding voluntary service to Gymnastics NSW during a particular year.
2.1.5 Volunteer Recognition Awards
A person who has contributed sustained and outstanding service to a Region over a long period of time in the order of 5 years.
2.2 Nomination and Selection Process
Nominations for the above award categories shall be in writing on the prescribed nomination forms (if applicable) and sent to the Gymnastics NSW Office. All nominations will be considered by the Gymnastics NSW Board of Directors in it absolute discretion, with appointments made based on the award criteria and the eligibility of the nominee.
2.3 Announcement and Presentation
In most cases the standard practice will be to call for nominations from December each year, with the nomination forms available to all members of Gymnastics NSW. The nominations will be considered by the Board of Directors during January. The presentation of the successful nominees will be held in conjunction with the Gymnastics NSW Annual Awards Dinner, held at a time deemed suitable by the Board of Directors. This does not preclude awards being determined and presented at other times in the absolute discretion of the Board of Directors.
3. Awards of Excellence
Overriding criteria for all Awards of Excellence to either organisations or individuals shall include the requirement that recipients shall demonstrate at all times the highest standards of personal conduct, sportsmanship, integrity and participation to the benefit of the sport.
3.1 Award Types
3.3 NSW Club of the Year (Sport Specific)
This award is presented to the best performing affiliated club in each of the gymnastic sport areas: Men’s Artistic, Women’s Artistic, Rhythmic, General Gymnastics, Kindergym, Sport Aerobics, Acrobatic Gymnastics and Trampoline Sports.
3.4 NSW Coach of the Year (Sport Specific)
This award is presented to the coach in NSW with the best results at events or competitions during the current calendar year. The award shall be presented to Levels and Elite coaches (as applicable and appropriate) for all competitive gymsports plus General Gymnastics and a separate category for Kindergym.
3.5 NSW Athlete of the Year (Sport Specific)
This award is presented to the best performing athletes from NSW during the course of the current year. The Athlete awards are based on results and representation at all levels.
3.6 NSW Overall Club of the Year
This award is presented to the club who is judged to be the best overall club in NSW, taking
into account all of the sports, participation numbers, volunteers, state team representation,
regional involvement etc.

3.4 Coach Award Selection Criteria
The Awards for Coach of the Year have been divided into the relevant categories for Elite and Levels coaches. The selection of award winners for Coach of the Year awards (with the exception of Cheerleading, GFA and KG) will be decided by the pointscore system outlined below. In the event of a tie based on point score, the SMC will determine the Award Winner considering the, competition results, scores, level of competition in division and any other relevant criteria. Coaches in these categories will not be required to nominate, or be nominated, for these awards.

3.5 Athlete Award Selection Criteria
The selection for the ‘Athlete of the Year Award’ will be based on the relevant point score system
below, and athletes are not required to nominate, or be nominated for these awards. In the event of
a tie based on point score, the SMC will determine the Award Winner considering the athletes
competition level, competition results, scores, level of competition in division and any other relevant
criteria.

3.6 N SW Overall Club of the Year
The following are quotes from the Gymnastics NSW Awards Policy that are relevant to the award of Overall Club of the Year.
3. Awards of Excellence Overriding criteria for all awards of excellence to either organizations or individuals shall include the requirement that recipients shall demonstrate at all times the highest standards of personal conduct, sportsmanship, integrity and participation to the benefit of the sport.
This award is presented to the club who is judges to be the best overall club in NSW, taking into account all of the sports, participation numbers, volunteers, state team representation regional involvement etc. The following is a draft codification of this statement pursuant to the request by the Gymnastics NSW Board at the April 22 Board Meeting 2004.

Representation by one person on two or more committees, at two or more events or at two or more competitions qualifies the club that is represented by that person for the relevant points for each and every representation.
3.7 Announcement and Presentation
The calculation of the point scores for the Awards of Excellence will be ongoing throughout the calendar year. The point score will be finalised by the end of the calendar year, with the winners being ratified by the Gymnastics NSW Board of Directors at a meeting early in the New Year. The presentation of awards will be made at the Gymnastics NSW Annual Awards Dinner to be held at a suitable time as determined by the Board of Directors.
