Information regarding Welsh Government Grants 2019/20, i.e. the Education Improvement Grant, Pupil Development Grant and Professional Learning Grant, can be found on G6. Please follow this link for details on how to access this information. Over the next few weeks, GwE’s Supporting Improvement Advisers will be discussing with you your use of the grants for the year, and we ask that every school’s plans be uploaded onto the relevant folder on G6 by 8 November, 2019.

We were delighted to see so many finalists and winners from schools across the region represented at this year’s Professional Teaching Awards Cymru, and encourage you to nominate your staff again this year.

QUALIFICATIONS WALES
QUALIFICATIONS WALES WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO TEACHERS ABOUT NON-EXAMINATION ASSESSMENT [NEA] IN GCSEs Qualifications Wales is inviting teachers of the following GCSE subjects to participate in small group discussions about their perceptions and experiences of delivering and assessing non-examination assessment (NEA): 1. Design and Technology 2. Food and Nutrition 3. French, German and Spanish
4. History
5. Media Studies 6. Music 7. Welsh Second Language
Qualifications Wales will be facilitating subject-specific discussions in five locations across Wales between November 2019 and January 2020. If you teach the WJEC GCSE specification of one of these subjects at a maintained secondary school, further education (FE) college, Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) or independent school in Wales, Qualifications Wales would love to hear your views. This conference disseminates good practice gained whilst working with partners from partner countries all over the world improving education for young learners.
The Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative The Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative would like to invite your school to participate in the initiative for 2020 [any work undertaken from April 2019 – April 2020] by entering a heritage project for the competition in Wales. There is a very wide and varied scope for schools in choosing what topic they would like to focus on. However, we would welcome more projects relating to the heritage in science, technology, industry, finance, commerce, sport and the role of women in history. There are two special awards for outstanding digital projects, one primary and one secondary. They look forward to receiving your entry and hope to see your school represented at the Awards ceremony in July 2020. Further information available here.
The Great Science Share for Schools is coming to Wales. It will be led by Dr Lynne Bianchi, we will be discussing the importance of the Great Science Share for Schools and how we can further develop the campaign in Wales.
