How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Instead of training a dragon, do a free “How to Train Your Dog” program for families with new – or misbehaving – four-legged friends. The movie keeps kids occupied while parents learn how to discipline the family pet!
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Assemble your community for a movie magical event enhanced with a LEGO competition! Pick your challenge, like create the park in LEGO form, something wacky like a pineapple or keep it open to builder’s choice!

Brand YOUR MOVIE SERIESIf you plan on hosting regularly scheduled movie events in your community, consider branding the series for consistency.
First: Come up with a memorable name for the series like “Movie Mondays” or “Free Movie Friday” and be sure to stay consistent with the time, day of the week and location of your showings.
Next: Create a cohesive set of visuals, including posters, flyers, schedules, signage and social media posts. This goes beyond using the same logo to incorporate colors, fonts and the general aesthetic.
Investing time to properly brand your event will help you better reach your targeted audience, increase exposure and, ultimately, draw larger crowds.

The city of Sulphur, Louisiana, began holding their “Movies in the Square” series back in 2011. Over the past six years, they have learned a great deal about how to make a movie program a success, which they’ve shared below in their list of top tips and tricks:
• Create the perfect schedule by reaching out to your community to ask what they’d like to see in the movie lineup.
• Make sure to feature a mix of titles, both new and old, to appeal to everyone.
• Get creative with concessions, activities, themes and screened titles – it will only make the event more enjoyable.
• Don’t stress about the weather. Swank has your back by giving you up to a year to reschedule your showing.
• Go digital. Highlight your movie events on your organization’s website and social media accounts.
• Partner with local businesses and organizations for freebies or to run concession stands.
• Open up money-making opportunities to local nonprofit organizations.
