Greek Spears
Ancient spears were known as a dory and were the most popular armament of the hoplites. It
could be used in hand combat or thrown. Spears were sharp iron with a wooden shaft and
a bronze butt. The spears allowed hoplites to keep their enemies at a distance.

Swords
Swords were used after the spear was completely broken. The first swords were made from copper and bronze
until iron was mined. Hand to hand combat consisted of thousands of men carrying slashing, double sided
swords. The swords weighed between 2 and 4 pounds and were strapped to their right arms on a belt called a
baldric.

Catapults
Catapults were large inventions that improved combat during the siege of a city. They were used to shoot large rocks and arrows great
distances. They helped revolutionize ancient warfare. They were used to tear down walls in
besieged cities.http://www.michtoy.com/MTSCnewSite/newplastic_folder/Hat/2009_adds/HAT-8184.html
Weapons are a key to success in any war and most of the time they define who will hold the victory. Greeks were well advanced
compared to other countries of their times. They were a feared military regime with better weapons and war tactics. The Greeks
believed in honor, courage and duty and they were constantly striving to improve upon those beliefs. Military improvements were
mandatory to the success of an ancient Greek city.
