Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:cleanse the thoughts of our heartsby the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,and worthily magnify your holy name;through Christ our Lord.Amen.

Since we are surroundedby a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and burden, looking to Jesus in penitence and faith.

Christ came in humility to share our lives:forgive our pride. Lord, have mercy.Lord, have mercy.

Christ came with good news for all people:forgive our silence. Christ, have mercy.Christ, have mercy.

Christ came in hope to a world of fear:forgive our self-centredness. Lord, have mercy.Lord, have mercy.

Almighty God,who in Jesus Christ has given usa kingdom that cannot be destroyed, forgive you your sins, open your eyes to God’s truth, strengthen you to do God’s willand give you the joy of his kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.

The first reading from the Bible

Ephesians 3:14-19

Ephesians 3.14-19

For this reason I bow my knees before

the Father, from whom every family in

heaven and on earth takes its name.

I pray that, according to the riches of

his glory, he may grant that you may be

strengthened in your inner being with

power through his Spirit, and that Christ

may dwell in your hearts through faith,

as you are being rooted and grounded in love.

I pray that you may have the power to

comprehend, with all the saints, what is

the breadth and length and height and depth,

and to know the love of Christ that surpasses

knowledge, so that you may be filled with

all the fullness of God.

This is the Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Hear the Gospel of our

Lord Jesus Christ according to John 12:20-26

Glory to you, O Lord.

Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, ‘Sir, we wish to see Jesus.’ Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honour.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, O Christ.

SermonBishop David

Let us declare our faith in God

Though he was divine,

he did not cling to equality with God,

but made himself nothing.

Taking the form of a slave,

he was born in human likeness.

He humbled himself

and was obedient to death,

even the death of the cross.

Therefore God has raised him on high,

and given him the name

above every name:

that at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,

and every voice proclaim that Jesus

Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

And also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

My Jesus, my Saviour,

Lord there is none like you.

All of my days I want to praise

The wonders of your mighty love.

My comfort, my shelter,

Tower of refuge and strength,

Let every breath, all that I am,

Never cease to worship you.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation:through your goodness we have this bread to set before you, which earth has given and human hands have made.It will become for us the bread of life.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation:through your goodness we have this wine to set before you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become for us the cup of salvation.

Blessed be God for ever.

The Lord be with you

and also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

Creator of heaven and earth and sea,

and everything in them,

we are your people, we give you thanks.

We praise your holy name.

You shake us and fill us with your Spirit,

you stretch out your hand to heal,

to do signs and wonders

through the name of Jesus.

We are your people,

we give you thanks.

We praise your holy name.

Jesus is the author of life.

You raised him from the dead,

and made us whole in him.

We are your people,

we give you thanks.

We praise your holy name.

You call us not despite of who we are

but because of who we are.

We live among fractured communities

in which we glimpse your presence.

We are your people,

we give you thanks.

We praise your holy name.

Your strength is made perfect in our weakness.

Your grace is enough for us.

We are your people, we give you thanks.

We praise your holy name.

Therefore with angels and archangels,

and with all the company of heaven,

we proclaim your great and glorious name,

for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes

in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed,

the source of all holiness;

grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit,

and according to your holy will,

these gifts of bread and wine

may be to us the body and blood

of our Lord Jesus Christ;

who in the same night that he was betrayed,

took bread and gave you thanks;

he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take, eat; this is my body

which is given for you;

do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper

he took the cup and gave you thanks;

he gave it to them saying:

Drink this, all of you;

this is my blood of the new covenant

which is shed for you and for many

for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it,

in remembrance of me.

Great is the mystery of faith:

Christ has died:

Christ is risen:

Christ will come again.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death

on the cross,

his perfect sacrifice made once

for the sins of the whole world;

rejoicing in his mighty resurrection

and glorious ascension,

and looking for his coming in glory,

we celebrate this memorial

of our redemption.

As we offer you this our sacrifice

of praise and thanksgiving,

we bring before you this bread and this cup

and we thank you

for counting us worthy

to stand in your presence

and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people

and gather into one in your kingdom

all who share this one bread and one cup,

so that we,

in the company of all the saints,

may praise and glorify you for ever,

through Jesus Christ our Lord;

by whom and with whom and in whom,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all honour and glory be yours,

almighty Father, for ever and ever:

Amen.

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come; thy will be done;on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation;but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us peace.

Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you,and his blood which he shed for you.Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you,and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.

may we bring your plans to birth,

build a church on Christ’s foundation,

fit to tend a troubled earth.

Growing, praying, sharing, learning,

deep in wisdom, broad in scope,

love-revealing, truth-discerning,

living out the gospel hope.

In the name of Christ. Amen.
