2. Log on to Governors Challenge Website -http://www.calgovcouncil.org/challenge/

Step 3 – Upload Student Information
Student Setup
You will need to work with your school administration to get student information in MS excel
–The information you will need is last name, first name and grade
There is an excel template you can download, enter your information and then upload to the GFC website
Note: I personally do this for the entire school. However, you can delegate the upload process and results management to each class. I find it easier to manage by myself

Step 4 and 5 – Identify Challenge Timeframe and Promote ChallengeChallenge Timeframe Each year, we have chosen a designated 30 day period to have students perform
the fitness challenge. We usually do this in the spring. We promote the challenge via the following channels:
Promote Challenge Staff – e-mails to staff to have them send home challenge information to parents Staff- Promote the challenge with the students Principal Connect Ed – Telephone message to all parents Weekly newsletter – Raccoon Tracks to announce the challenge PTA Newsletter PTA E-mail Alias PTA Meetings Flyers on Campus Word of Mouth

Step 6 – Start Challenge
Start the challenge
Once the rosters are uploaded you will need to start the challenge using the coordinator tools. Please note, do not start until you are ready
You can do the challenge as many times as you desire, but remember to have clear concise communications all the way through.
Remember to KEEP IT SIMPLE and HAVE FUN!

Step 7 – Results Tracking
Results tracking
Rancho has done this two ways:–The first year, we created calendars and had the parents fill out the active days, sign, turn in and then we manually entered 523 kids. This was a hassle and not recommended
–Year 2 and 3 we relied on communication between the staff, students and parents. We went with an opt out strategy, where parents needed to tell us if the kids did not complete the challenge. We also supplemented our school exercise to ensure each child completed the challenge. This was much easier to manage, but again this is personal preference
At the end of the challenge you will need to follow up with any new kids and any kids that did not complete the challenge to ensure you get to 100%. This is the most painful part of the process, but certainly worth it when you are announced the California State Champion.

Parent Participation
Parent Participation
Communicate to parents to sign up via the same channels used for kids. You can also go word of mouth. This is an area rancho can and will improve on this year. Remember to let then know that this is something they are doing with there kids and that they are a part of something special.
Make sure the parents do NOT sign their child up a second time. This also has created challenges for us in the past.

Good Luck
We wish you the best of luck with the challenge
Rancho kids loved the challenge, as did the parents
It has been one of the most rewarding experiences that we have ever been a part of
