What Is Google Glass?• Google Glass is a wearable computer with an

optical head-mounted display that is being developed by Google in the Project Glass research and development project.

• Glass is part of the evolution from desktop to mobile to wearable technology.

• It is not an extension of Android smartphone or tablet, but is a whole new gadget in itself that can perform various day to day tasks, even without moving your hands.

History• The first appearance of Google Glass was by

Sergey Brin who wore it in public event in San Francisco on April 5, 2012 .

• The project was announced on Google+ by Project Glass and the project was led by Babak Parviz.

• It is developing by Google X (The R & D lab that developed Glass).

Interface

Typical Google Glass gestures:• Swipe forward and back to move through items

on your timeline.• Touch the touchpad once to select an item.• Swipe down to close menu (and get back to a

previous menu entry) and to close mobile apps.

How it works?• A German Designer created this infographic.

• Projector and prism working together.

• Core feature of it is a visual layer that is placed over the reality.

• Projector projected the layer via a prism on the retina.

• Google glass is a technical masterpiece based on a projector and a very clever prism , that projects the image directly on the retina.

Technologies used• Augmented Reality• Wearable Computing• Smart clothing• Eye tap technology• Smart Grid technology• 4G technology• Android technology

Advantages• Easy to wear and use.• Sensitive and responsive to the presence of

people. • Fast access of maps, documents, videos, chats

and much more. • A new trend for fashion lovers together being an

innovative technology. • A spectacle based computer to reside directly on

your eyes rather than in your pouch or pocket. • A useful technology for all kinds of

handicapped/disabled people.

Disadvantages• Get distracted while walking or driving and may

have an accident.• Continuously wearing a phone next to your Brain

may damage the brain cells.• Throw the Google glass when your smart phone

breaks and vice versa.• Security Issues like many workplaces will not

allow the use of it because of exposure to sensitive information and PII(Personally identifiable information).

• Most of the applications for Google Glass can be a battery hog.

Future scope• In Future Google glass may use in medical

science, Geographical studies , defense etc.• Google Glass is a futuristic gadget we’ve seen in

recent times. It has limited scope right now, but Google believes that it has bright future and the device itself is “incredibly compelling”.

• Competition for the Google glass will be apple iStick.
