Invented by Ruth Handler in 1959. Barbie was named after Ruth’s daughter and Ken after her son.

Purpose of Barbie

The original purpose for the Barbie doll was to be a child’s play toy. But after it came out little girls started looking up to the model figure and wanted to be just like her.

Role Model Material?

Known to cause girls self esteem problems, body issues, diseases, and body image obsession.

Some little girls look up to Barbie and wish to be like her , they want to look like her and feel “ugly” if they don’t.
