Do you ever take notes and then lose the piece of paper you wrote them on?

Do you ever find a great website and then have to spend time searching for it when you want to view it again?

One way to avoid these problems is to use OneNote– OneNote stores your notebook electronically, on the

computer, and organizes it into sections– each section can represent a different subject and

contain one or more pages

Skill 1 Steps: Create a Notebook with Sections

1. With OneNote open, click the FILE tab and click the New option

2. Click Student Name’s SkyDrive

3. Type a name in the Notebook Name text box

4. Click the Create Notebook button and click Not now in the dialog box

5. Right-click the New Section 1 tab and then click the Rename option

Sharing a Notebook Sharing a notebook allows you to collaborate

with others on projects– when you select SkyDrive as the place to save your

notebook, you will be prompted to invite others to share your notebook

– to share a notebook after you have created it, click the FILE tab, click the Share option, and then type the email address of the person you would like to share the notebook with in the Invite People text box

1. With a OneNote notebook open, click the desired tab

2. Type the desired text in the page header area to change the name of the page

3. Click a blank area of the page below the current time and start typing

Creating and Naming New Pages To add a new page to the current section of

your OneNote notebook, click the Add Page button at the top of the page tabs

You can navigate among pages by clicking a page tab in the right pane

You can change the page name by typing text in the page header

1. With a OneNote notebook open, click a tab

2. Click a note container containing text

3. Click the HOME tab

4. Click the More button in the Tags gallery in the Tags group

5. Click the Important option

Creating and Using a To-Do List If you need to create a task or to-do list, use the

To Do tag– this tag adds a check box to the left of the content in a

note container– you can then create a To Do list on a separate page

by clicking the Find Tags button, collapsing all tags shown except the To Do tags, and then clicking the Create Summary Page button at the bottom of the Tags Summary task pane

Skill 4 Steps: Insert a Link to Online Content

1. With a OneNote notebook open, click a tab

2. Click in a blank area of the page below the existing note containers and type a URL

3. Click the URL link to display the web page

4. On the displayed web page, triple-click the desired text to select it

5. Press Ctrl + C to copy the selected information

7. Click in a blank area of the OneNote page and press Ctrl + V to paste the copied information along with the URL

Using OneNote to Create a Research Paper Start by creating note containers with your

research notes– you can then move and tag note containers to

organize your notes– once your research is organized, click the FILE tab

and then click the Export option to export your notes into a Word document
