The Polly Klaas® Foundation is a national nonprofit dedicated to the safety of all children, the recovery of missing children, and public policies that keep children safe in their communities.
They have helped more than 7,691 families of missing children, counseling them on ways to find their children and work with law enforcement. They make and distribute posters of missing children for these families, and have a national eVolunteer force that distributes posters of missing children in their communities. Their hotline has been answered 24/7 since 1993.
They publish and distribute child safety information to people around the world. Their free Child Safety Kit and Internet Safety Kit can be ordered or downloaded (click here) by following this link .
The Polly Klaas Foundation is the recipient of the Missing Child Non-Profit of the Year Award for 2011 awarded by the US Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
Since you can't always be with your kids, it's important to teach them how to find help and keep themselves safe.
Most importantly, you need to do this in a way that doesn't scare yourself or your children. Instead, you want to build your children's self-confidence.

Your kids will feel safer when they can confidently recognize dangerous situations and respond immediately.
The free Child Safety Kit can help you keep your children safe, even when you are not with them. With special no-scare methods for each age group, the Child Safety Kit includes:
Asking for help when no trusted adult is nearby.
Unacceptable adult behaviors that can threaten children.
Recognizing dangerous situations.
Ways to respond to dangerous situations and keep safe.
Additionally, parents are introduced to the "What If" game, an engaging way to teach safety to their kids, which can be fun and build self-esteem.
The free Child Safety Kit tells parents what they need to know, and how to say it to their children.
You may want to follow the recommendation of many law enforcement officials and have Child ID cards for each of your children.
In the privacy of your own home, you can prepare personalized ID cards for your children. That way if you ever need the information, it is ready and in one place.
The free child Fingerprint and DNA Document includes full instructions and special forms:
• Your child’s fingerprint form.• Instructions on how to take child fingerprints.• Instructions on sampling each child’s DNA.• The best way to store DNA samples.• Personal information record for your child—medications, allergies, and doctor, as well
as name, birthdate, and address.• Current photo record.
Extra forms are available for when your address or doctor changes.
The Fingerprint & DNA Document is included in the free Child Safety Kit, which includes 24 pages of guidance for parents and safety tips for children. The Kit helps you build your children’s self-confidence by teaching them ways to stay safe.
