It is always a challenge for producers and scriptwriters to come up with new, creative, and high-rating shows to be aired over modern televisions. Pinoy viewers are always meticulous when it comes to choosing what to watch. If a show does not interest them, remote controls will be abused by their fingers. If the plot is the same as before, viewers would feel sated and would raise a question, Anything new? All shows are inspired by the same and predictable twists which make our eyes roll away from the TV screens. Yes, I know that scenario too.
For our remedy, some students around our campus were asked to suggest some shows they wish existed on national TV. Surprisingly, most of them are inspired by foreign shows. And it is highly suggested to do them in our own version. As we always say, Sa ating sariling istilo, di ba?
THE PEG: HUNGER GAMES OR BATTLE ROYALE
Students wish to stay tuned in a reality show and be puzzled on who will survive among the contenders like the tributes in the famed Hunger Games! Every episode will be filled with suspense because every movement and every action will be eyed by surveillance cameras. Wait, the show will not really promote murder or violence. There will be parameters given if the contender will be evicted or not. The show will not be appropriate for kiddie viewers but for old enough audience. Their hunger for exciting Pinoy Hunger Games-like reality show will be mixed with the rules of Battle Royale. What do you think?
THE PEG: PHS NEXT TOP MODEL (PNTM)
How about our own version of ANTM? Would that be great? In all fairness, it has been already produced here but regretfully, it did not spark a hit. But it is never too late to try it again! Because were Asians, we arent expected to have the features of a blonde woman. Perhaps we cant imitate everything the foreigners produce. In fact, a third year communication student, Dianne Jillian Ocampo, commented, Minsan kapag nanonood ako ng ANTM, winish ko na sana magkaroon ng ganon na walang height requirement. As we all know, most Filipinos arent blessed with long legs.
THE PEG: ATTACK THAT STAR!
No, that attack is not Ashs favorite command for his Pokemons. Heres my explanation of what students have hinted. Dont you think that an ambush documentation of a stars day-to-day life would be awesome? Its like the team of the show will go to a stars residence without prior notice. What do you think will be their reaction? Will they get mad, shocked, or pissed? How can they maintain their image in public? You know, it will be cute or funny to find your idols in pajamas or in boxer shorts and without any makeup on, of course. With this show, the inner and outer beauty of Filipinos can contribute to the success of the show. I could only imagine the hype it would receive. Right? On the spot, attack that star!
THE PEG: 101 WAYS TO LEAVE A GAME SHOW
Four brainy, mighty, and hopeful contestants can join this mind and body game show. The host announces a question followed by four possible correct choices. Each contestant is privileged to choose one answer. But the twist goes like this: out of those four choices, there is one wrong answer and the one who gets that wrong answer will be evicted. But wait, there is more! If you think being evicted makes you save your life, think again. In 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, being evicted means extreme yet exciting challenges are to be nailed. The studio will not free you unless you succeed. Yes, the contestant can avail 101 ways to leave the show. Hmm this show might need longer running time than expected.
THE PEG: WE GOT MARRIED
Heres another hypothetical but hard question: What if you will be married to someone you never knew? We Got Married is a Korean TV show which seeks celebrities and matches them randomly. They will not have the chance to choose who to be with. The shows aim is to make the couple live together. They will be experiencing a mock marriage life and their fans will more likely cling on the channel. Filipino fans would surely love this kind of sensation. I think this reality show believes that love, including marriage, is like a game.

Both may not know they excel in their chosen endeavors but one thing is for sure: They are working on them at this present time to maintain the magnitude of their success.
