Significance of Knowing Your Calling
Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfil it. - Colossians 4:17
Your ministry, or calling, is the purpose of your life - the reason you exist.
It is what God has in mind for you to do and be. It is the accumulation of what God has invested in you so far through gifts and abilities, heredity and circumstances.
"A calling is God's personal, individual invitation to carry out the unique task he has for you."
Callings are not chosen, they are discovered. Careers are chosen and it may not be what a person is called to. We can exist and do other things; however, we have not lived until we do what we were created and called to do
Before you can discover God's calling for you specifically, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Apostles Today
Special Qualifications: The qualifications of the apostles are given in Acts 1: 21-22. They must have been with Jesus during His earthly ministry (v.21), been baptized by John the Baptist (v.22), and been eyewitnesses of the resurrected Christ (v.22).
While the “title” Apostle has been retired, the function has not. Today, and since the close of the Canon of Scripture, Bishops carry out the function of the New Testament Apostles

Gift of Prophesy

• To encourage Christians through the anointing of the Spirit.
• “to bubble up, to flow forth, to cause to drop like rain.” Prophesy is not planned but is a spontaneous manifestation
Every Prophet will and does Prophesy
But not everyone that prophesies is a Prophet.
(Every preacher will and does preach. But not everyone who preaches is a preacher).
(Every baseball player wears a cap. But not everyone who wears a cap is a baseball player).
Why and How the Scripture teaches us to Judge Prophesy
1. Because of it’s spontaneity
2. Does it glorify Christ (John 16:14;
1 Corinthians 12:3; 1 John 4:1-2)
3. Does it agree with Scripture (Isaiah 8:20)
4. Are their prophesies fulfilled (Deut. 18:22)
5. All believers have an unction (anointing) within them that tells them when something is wrong. Prophecies should witness with our spirit. (1 John 2: 20,27)
Difference between Prophesy and Preaching
Prophesy (profatyuo)
• To exhort, edify and comfort through inspirational speech

• “to bubble up, to flow forth, to cause to drop like rain.” Prophesy is not planned but is a spontaneous manifestation
Preaching (karusso)
• To exhort, edify, teach, illustrate and apply the Word.
• To proclaim, announce, cry, or tell what the Word says.
