What is the purpose of GaTAPP?The purpose of GaTAPP is to prepare individuals holding a bachelor’s degree for teaching by providing them with the pedagogical skills, knowledge, and support needed to obtain a Professional Teaching Certificate. Candidates are able to complete requirements of the program while employed as full-time classroom teachers.

TAPP does not serve the following:

● Individuals who have held a clear- renewable Teaching Certificate

● Individuals seeking a Leadership Certificate

● Individuals seeking a Service Certificate (Ex: counseling)

● Individuals seeking a college degree or college credit

Undergraduate GPA - minimum of a 2.5

(no rounding up)

If your GPA is below 2.5, you must pass the content area GACE at the professional level before you will be considered eligible for participation in the GaTAPP program.

Do you have a passing score on the GACE Program Admission assessment? The GACE Program Admission assessment can be exempted if you have high enough scores on the SAT, ACT, or GRE.

Have you completed the GACE Content Assessment? A copy of the passing score report is needed to verify that this requirement has been met. ● For SpEd, either 087 or 088 will be required for P-8 grades.

If interested in 6-12 grades, please contact our office for more information.

● If your GPA is at least a 2.5, you can pass at either the Induction level (220) or Professional level (250). If your GPA is less than a 2.5, you must pass at the Professional level (250).

Have you completed the pre-screening application which can be found at the Middle Georgia RESA office or on the Middle Georgia RESA website at www.mgresa.org? Mail or bring the application to the Middle Georgia RESA office. Shortly afterwards you will receive a letter from Middle Georgia RESA with notification of whether or not you are eligible and in which content areas.

Have you been offered a full-time teaching position by one of thesystems/schools served byMiddle Georgia RESA?

(You do not have to be offered a teaching position in order to enroll in the Essentials course. The fee for the course without a position is $500.)

Contact all colleges and/or universities you attended and have them send your transcripts to Melissa Smith at Middle Georgia RESA and to the school systems where you seek employment. You may hand-deliverthem in sealed and signed envelopes.Copies or opened transcripts are not acceptable.

TAPP Essentials for Effective Teaching Classes

Summer/Fall 2017 The Essentials course is 80 hours. You are required to attend all sessions.

Once in TAPP, then what?

1 Finish the Essentials class. Because ofthe 80 hours mandated by the state,no absences are allowed.

2 The following will be discussed withyou by your Supervisor: seminars, journalentries, observations of you while teaching, field experiences by you of other teachers, CST Meetings, mentor meetings.

Complete the local portfolio. The portfolio is used to document the candidate’s teaching performance and serves as the basis for program completion and teacher certification.

Take & pass other courses required ofyour certification area. Your Supervisor will discuss these with you.

All required courses are offered by Middle Georgia RESA as online courses

and are included in the TAPP fees.

Am I in this alone or will I have support?

Each TAPP Teacher in our program receives support and encouragement from several sources of assistance. You will have a school-based mentor assigned to you by an administrator at your school, a supervisor assigned to you by RESA, and an administrator at your school. These individuals make up your Candidate Support Team (CST).

What is the cost of the program?

$4500 First Year (Required)

$1000 Second Year (Required)

$1000 Third Year (If needed)

Candidates hired outside of the MGRESA area will pay an additional $500 per year in program.

Unless the amount is paid initially, your payments are deducted In equal installments from your monthly paychecks.

Additional Cost

You should be aware of an external expense not covered by tuition. You will be responsible for paying for edTPA, the new state-required summative assessment of pedagogy (ability to teach).

The cost of EdTPA is $300, which must be paid during your second full semester in our program. Failure to submit edTPA during your second full semester in the program will result in program dismissal.

Career and Technical Education Fields (grades 6-12).GaTAPP can now serve individuals who hold a high schooldiploma or GED, or an associate’s degree or higher in theteaching field for which the individual is seeking theprofessional teaching certification as delineated in Certification rule 505-2-.96, TRADE AND INDUSTRIALEDUCATION or Rule 505-2-.70, HEALTHCARE SCIENCETECHNOLOGY EDUCATION fields;

Early Childhood Add-OnTeachers holding a current Georgia Certificate can now addEarly Childhood Education by passing the GACE in ECE,securing a position in an Elementary School. If interested, apply to MiddleGeorgia RESA for enrollment in the add-on program.
